🔴❤️ SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD ❤️🔴

FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER – WEAR RED NON-UNIFORM DAY

On Friday 16th October, we’re asking Willow Grove to turn RED as we support Show Racism the Red Card. 🔴🙌

Our commitment to anti-racist education means doing more than simply teaching children that racism is wrong.

We want our pupils to:

🧠 Understand prejudice and discrimination
⚖️ Recognise injustice
🌍 Celebrate diversity
💬 Develop the confidence to challenge racism appropriately
❤️ Show empathy and respect towards others

Children are growing up in a diverse world, and education has an important role to play in ensuring they have the knowledge, empathy and courage to help make that world better. 🌍✨

So, on Friday 16th October:

🎭✨ PETER PAN IS COMING TO WILLOW GROVE! ✨🎭

🧚‍♂️🏴‍☠️ Neverland is coming to school!

On Friday 9th October, our children will have the wonderful opportunity to experience the magic of live theatre as we welcome a performance of Peter Pan to Willow Grove! 🌟🎭

🎬 Experiencing live performance gives children something very different from watching a screen.

It helps to:

💭 Develop imagination
🗣️ Build language and communication
🌍 Develop cultural understanding
🎭 Introduce children to performance and storytelling
✨ Create memorable shared experiences

On Thursday 8th October, we’re doing staff wellbeing Willow Grove-style – with a wonderfully creative Henna Workshop! 🎨✨

🏫 Schools are busy places, and our staff give an enormous amount of themselves to the children they teach and support every day.

That’s why we believe staff wellbeing matters. 💚

Looking after staff wellbeing isn’t separate from providing an excellent education. When staff feel:

they help create the positive, enthusiastic and nurturing environment in which children thrive. 🌟

🎨🌊 YEAR 3 TAKE ONE PICTURE – DIVING INTO CREATIVITY! 🌊🎨

Our Year 3 children have been getting creative as part of our Take One Picture art project, inspired by Cosimo Tura’s A Muse (Calliope?). 🖼️✨

🔍 Using iPads, the children explored the painting in finer detail, looking closely at the colours, shapes, patterns and fascinating features within the artwork.

👑 They then let their imaginations take over as they:

🎨 Designed their own throne
🐉 Created their own mythical sea creatures and underwater worlds
🌊 Explored different materials and shades of blue to create an underwater background
🖌️ Experimented with colour, texture and composition

Now the children are working hard to bring all of their individual ideas together to create an underwater sea scene in response to the stimulus painting. 🌊🐚🐠✨

We can’t wait to see the finished pieces!

A huge thank you to all the families for their generous Harvest donations. 🥫💛

The children enjoyed a wonderful Harvest Festival Assembly, celebrating the importance of gratitude, sharing and thinking about others in their community. 🌱🤝

The school is incredibly grateful for the support and generosity shown. The donations will help to support those in the local community.

🎨🖼️ TAKE ONE PICTURE – BIG IDEAS FROM ONE EXTRAORDINARY PAINTING 🖼️🎨

We are delighted to be taking part once again in the National Gallery’s Take One Picture programme! 🌟

🖌️ Each year, the National Gallery selects one painting as a starting point for learning. Schools are encouraged to let children’s own questions, observations and ideas lead the way, making connections across:

🎨 Art
📚 History
✍️ Writing
🎵 Music
🎭 Drama
💡 And so much more!

This year, our children will be exploring Cosimo Tura’s A Muse (Calliope?). 🖼️✨

🌱 Across Willow Grove, each year group will develop its own project inspired by the painting – and we can’t wait to see where our children’s imaginations take them! 🚀💭

🏆 We are particularly proud of our history with this project. Work created by our EYFS children was previously selected by the National Gallery for exhibition – an incredible achievement for some of our youngest pupils! 🌟👏

At Willow Grove, Be Creative isn’t an occasional activity or an added extra.

🎨 Creativity is part of how our children learn, think, question and express themselves.

🎨 Year 3 have started their first art topic! 🖌️

The children have begun exploring gestural drawing with charcoal, a wonderful topic that links beautifully with their current Stone Age work in History. 🪨🔥

During their first exploration lesson, the children experimented with charcoal and discovered the many different marks, lines and textures they could create. ✏️✨

It was fantastic to see their creativity, curiosity and willingness to experiment shine through! 🖤🎨

🌾🍂 HARVEST ASSEMBLY – FRIDAY 2ND OCTOBER 🍂🌾

On Friday 2nd October, our children will come together in school for a special Harvest Assembly. 🌽🍎🥕

This will be a celebration for our children and staff, so parents do not need to attend. 💛

🌱 WHY DO WE CELEBRATE HARVEST?

Harvest celebrations have a long tradition in schools and communities. Traditionally, Harvest was a time to give thanks for the food that had been grown and gathered throughout the year and to share with those who had less.

Although life looks rather different today, we believe the messages behind Harvest remain just as important. 🌍💚

It gives our children an opportunity to think about:

🍎 Where our food comes from
🙏 Gratitude for what we have
🤝 The importance of sharing
💛 Our responsibility to support others in our community

These themes link closely with the values we want to develop in our children at Willow Grove, particularly our value of ‘Value’, where we teach gratitude and appreciation. 🌟

🥫 HARVEST DONATIONS 🥫

As part of our Harvest celebration, we would be very grateful for donations of:

🥫 Tinned foods
📦 Packet foods

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept fresh or frozen food.

Some of the food collected will be used to support families within our own Willow Grove community who may currently be experiencing financial hardship. 💛

We know circumstances can change for any family, and we want to make sure that the support of our community reaches those who need it.

If a food parcel would be helpful to your family at the moment, please get in touch with us in complete confidence by emailing:

We will discreetly arrange for a parcel to be provided to you. There is absolutely no need to explain or justify your circumstances. 💛

Any food remaining after we have supported Willow Grove families will be donated to our local Food Bank, helping other families within the wider community. 🤝❤️

📅 WHEN SHOULD DONATIONS BE BROUGHT IN?

Children can bring donations into school and give them to their class teacher at any point between now and Thursday 1st October.

⏰ Please ensure that all donations are received by Thursday 1st October at the latest, ready for our Harvest Assembly the following day.

🌾 Thank you, as always, for supporting our school community. 🌾

Even one tin or packet makes a difference. 🥫❤️ Together, we hope to create a wonderful Harvest collection that helps our children see kindness, gratitude and community in action.
