The Seeds of Change ( now trading as Stable & Wild), offer a range of courses using horses, small animals and nature to support individuals to overcome barriers to learning and progressing in life. We provide a sanctuary, away from tradition, constraints and distractions, which offers both stability and freedom.

We all know the saying about what curiosity did to the cat.
But what if it actually made it stronger, more courageous and better equipped to go out into the world more confident and resilient?
🦁
Being curious is one of the pillars of everything we do Stable and Wild.

We encourage young people to be curious about trying new things, what might happen ifs?
Because curiosity opens our minds to the possibility of learning something new. Something about ourselves, about others, about the world around us and how to be within it. It empowers us and delivers self esteem as a result.

Sometimes being curious gets us into trouble, but that is the most powerful kind of curiosity, because we learn the really important stuff from it.

We experience life when we start to become curious and to grow from those experiences.

Curiosity creates a growth mind set. As adults, it encourages us to keep our minds open and believe in possibilities, no matter how old we are. 👊

So let’s all start to build our inner 🦁 by asking, doing or trying something new that stretches us! 💪

Ooooh…. What might happen!!! 😜

Just pulling out of a field gateway at 1:30 on a Saturday having finished a 40 min conversation with a parent ….

It’s got me thinking about the number of gateways, laybys, grass verges or random spots around the field or farm where I have stopped when my phone has rung, to respond to a call to our small business.

It’s been 20 years and I still feel the same sense of importance and urgency to respond to those enquiring about our service, or just wanting to talk through the challenges faced by them or their child.

My car is littered with scribbled notes I have taken, to remind me of agreed actions or appointments made - but in all honesty I would not have it any other way.

Our business is about being there, available and truly listening to whoever calls ( apart from the call centres that is 😂) it’s about helping where possible and signposting if not. It’s about people, connecting and acting. In these days of AI and chatbots this interaction feels even more vital.

If you run a small business I would love to know if this is something that you do too 😜 ?

Happy Saturday 😊

They say never work with children or animals, but today was a perfect example of why we definitely don't believe that!

Today we filmed our new promotional video with the supremely talented .hlushchenko . For us, this wasn't just about capturing footage; it was about sharing the honest experiences of the schools and commissioners we work with, the heartfelt stories of parents, and the impact our work has on our learners – all in their own words.

It was an amazing, inspiring, and emotional day.

A huge thank you to our fantastic team at Stable and Wild and everyone who played their part in making today such a success. Thanks also to the schools who joined us and gave up some of their precious time, and to our parents and learners who opened their hearts and helped show the real impact Stable and Wild can have.

And finally, thank you to all the animals, who behaved impeccably and were absolute stars in front of the camera!

We can't wait to share the final film with you.

Reflections…

Marking progression and how far a young person has come is important.
🌳
Important for them to recall their progress and the strategies they now have in their toolbox to draw upon in life.
🦋
Also important for those around them to recognise that too and to offer continued support during the next stages of progression.
🌼
But for us as an it becomes increasingly important to be able to distinguish the difference between what can be achieved in a setting like ours, compared to a more traditional learning environment.
🐛
We don’t replace school, but we can help children to cope with it in a more sustainable way .

I love all animals, but I have to admit guinea pigs are one of my favourites. 🤎 🖤 🤍
They are sooo cheeky, reactive, funny, curious, friendly and sociable.

They have their own distinct personalities and in a group of a dozen, we can probably pick out 1 or 2 that have similar traits to ourselves!

When I sit with the guinea pigs, they immediately pick up on my mood and instantly decide if they want to be around me, or scuttle back into their home.

Animals really do tell us so much about ourselves, no matter how old we are, or how small they are.

If you would like to know more about how we use animals to support our learning and development, please get in touch. ☎️

Anxiety is a form of paralysis - it is real and currently affects approximately 28% of school aged children in the UK.

But have you ever wondered why it has become such a problem ?

If you are as old as me, you might think that back in the day, children weren’t absent from school because of anxiety. Infact we probably didn’t know what the word was when growing up!

This book by sets out an explanation of how and most interestingly WHY we have such a huge problem with anxiety across generations of children.

It’s both fascinating, gripping and informative and if you’re like me, you will probably scrawl all over the parts that really resonate with you!

I’d love to hear what you think if you read it?

Domestic Abuse

Although our social media posting tends to focus on impact and a bit of occasional humour 😂 there is also the very serious side of our work which enables us to support young people with the day to day reality of their lives .

Every half term we do additional to ensure we are aware, understand and are equipped to responsibly deal with any situation that might be present in a young persons life.

can be present in any family and can take many forms. Spotting the early signs is so important in protecting victims and ensuring they receive the absolute best support available.

It’s also essential to mention that the victims of DA can be men, grand parents and carers, not just women and children.

If you suspect there is DA present in a family you know then contact the experts to find out what you should do.

What makes us different?

One of the things that makes us different to many educational settings is that we use animals and nature to support our learning.
🦌
Animals are our co-coaches and come in different forms, all with different personalities.
🐴
One thing they all have in common is that they can’t talk to us…. Imagine that, a teacher that can’t speak?? 😂
🐰
And yet they are amongst the best communicators.
🐓
We observe their interactions with us, the trust they place in us and the empathy they demonstrate. Along with their non judgemental approach, we discover that through animals we truly can learn to take control of our lives again.
