From September 2026, single and multi-academy trusts are advised to procure supply staff through the RM6376 framework (2026 Academy Trusts Handbook). Maintained schools are strongly encouraged to follow as best practice.

Big changes are coming to how schools hire supply staff, here's what you need to know.

The Government Commercial Agency (GCA, which replaced the Crown Commercial Service) runs RM6376, the official framework for sourcing supply teachers and education staff.

It gives schools a pre-approved, compliant route to trusted agencies, with:
- Capped agency fees
- Transparent pricing
- Strengthened safeguarding & compliance standards
