Today, Year 6 took part in the Great Big Live Assembly for Black History Month. The theme was 'Honouring our Communities' and focused on how diversity makes our country such an amazing place to live.
A special poem by Benjamin Zephaniah was read and we even heard from Brandon Thomas-Asante, a Premier League footballer. We had some great discussions after this and were able to consider how we all contribute to our Balliol community.

Year 5 had a fantastic time visiting Balliol Road Allotments last week! The children were fascinated to learn about the many different types of fruit, vegetables and other produce from around the world that plot owners grow there. 🌍🌿
They also did a brilliant job showing off their geographical knowledge, explaining how the hot, dry weather over the summer may have affected the plants and growing conditions at the allotments.
A huge thank you to everyone at Balliol Road Allotments for welcoming us and sharing their knowledge with the children! 💚

It's time for Year 2 to Year 6 to show off their TTRockStars skills as Balliol take on Camestone and Springfield in 'Top of the Rocks, Battle of the Schools!'

The competition starts at 9.30am on Monday 5th October and ends at 3.30pm on Thursday 8th October.

The more children in Year 2 to Year 6 who take part, the better we will do. The children can play in any game mode
and all correct answers gained between 7.30am and 6.30pm daily will count towards our final score.

The winning school and winning classes within each school will be announced once the competition has closed.

Good luck everyone and let's see if Balliol can come out 'Top of the Rocks'!

Today, Year 6 were visited by Mr Carter and Otis from Daubeney Academy.
Mr Carter shared lots of exciting things about life at Daubeney, but the real star of the show was Otis!
Details of Daubeney's open evening are on the Year 6 page on the school website, and the children will also bring a flyer home tomorrow. With the flyer will be a competition.
Mr Carter said that the children can bring their entries to the open evening, with a chance to win a hamper of goodies, and of course, there will be the chance to meet Otis again!

Last week, Year 6 took part in transition activities at Kempston Academy.
On Wednesday, the whole year group spent the afternoon in KA's library, taking part in a scavenger hunt, as well as other activities designed to promote reading for pleasure.
They had a fantastic afternoon, helped by Year 7 pupils and student library leaders.
Then, on Friday, Mrs Dimbleby and Miss O'Connor met with staff to discuss how the transition process can work best for Year 6s preparing to move to Year 7.
This was followed by a tour of the school, led by four of our wonderful ex-pupils.
It was great to work closely with KA and we look forward to far more of these opportunities this year.
