A busy musical week at Balliol. The Choir took part in The Big Sing at Bedford Modern school. They enjoyed singing with the other choirs from schools from across Bedford in a different environment and sharing some of their own songs that they have practiced as well as singing together with the other choirs.
Members of the Philharmonic orchestra visited Years 3 and 4 sharing their instruments and allowing us to take part in musical activities alongside them. Year 3 were able to use percussion to create a piece of music altogether and Year 4 had the opportunity to conduct the music. What a fantastic experience - we are looking forward to joining other schools in two weeks to see them in full concert.

Another wonderful visit from Ark farm and small animals. The children in EYFS had a chance to further their understanding of farm animals. Years 1, 2 and 3 also had a chance to broaden their understanding of small animals such as hedgehogs, rabbits, chinchillas, tortoise and guinea pigs. Everyone loved the mischievous dogs!!
The children all had a chance to get up close, learning about the animals including what they eat, what they like and how they are cared for.

This week, our Early Years children have welcomed their special adults to join them for afternoons of craft activities.
It has been wonderful to share this with all of the special adults that support our children so well. Thank you so much to everyone that came, and to all of the staff that ensured this was a memorable occasion for all involved.

We are incredibly proud of Balliol Choir for performing at the Bedfordshire Festival of Speech, Music and Drama this morning at The Corn Exchange.

The children all worked so hard and competed against other choirs, performing with huge smiles on their faces and lots of infectious enthusiasm!

They performed 3 songs complete with harmonies, soloists, dynamics and body percussion.

Well done to all involved!

This afternoon our Year 3 pupils had a fantastic time taking part in a lively Tamboo Bamboo workshop led by Amy from the Bedford Music Service!
The children learned how to create rhythms by tapping the instrument on the floor and using beaters, bringing the music to life through sound and movement.
They learnt that these were musical instruments from Trinidad and Tobago and explored different rhythmic patterns – including “travelling beats” – while singing traditional folk songs and imagining they were visiting a Caribbean island.
It was a fun, energetic experience that combined music, rhythm and culture, ending in a mini concert to some other children in the school.
A huge thank you to Amy and the Bedford Music Service for such an engaging afternoon.

Year 3 absolutely loved it!
