Our Year 10 French students recently took part in an engaging and interactive French Film Study Day, exploring themes of identity, culture and belonging through contemporary cinema.
Conducted predominantly in French, the day featured a range of short film screenings alongside discussions and activities designed to strengthen students’ listening, speaking and writing skills. Our students embraced the opportunity to expand their vocabulary and cultural understanding, contributing confidently to discussions and offering thoughtful, insightful reflections.
In the afternoon, students watched Gagarine (2020), a powerful and thought-provoking film centred on community and identity. Shown in French with English subtitles, the screening provided a valuable opportunity to experience authentic French language and culture beyond the classroom, bringing their learning to life in an inspiring and memorable way.

Year 13 BMS Students Nominated for Environmental Champion Award
After pitching their innovative business idea, SwapCircle – a sustainability app designed to help people swap, reuse and share items rather than buy new – to a panel of industry professionals and potential investors at the highly competitive Ignite Project Finals, three of our students have now been nominated for the Environmental Champion Award at this year’s YouthTV Aspire Awards.
This outstanding achievement is a testament to their creativity, confidence and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as their commitment to building a more sustainable future. We wish them the very best of luck and look forward to celebrating their continued success!

We were thrilled to see a group of our talented Year 7 Street Dancers proudly taking to the stage at the very first Silver Faces Dance Platform. Sponsored by One Dance and U Dance, this exciting new event brought together dance organisations from across the area to share and celebrate performance.
Held at The Place Theatre, our students performed brilliantly, showcasing their energy, commitment and creativity. It was also a joy to watch the work of other schools, with a wonderfully supportive atmosphere throughout the event.
As part of the day, all participating students took part in a British Sign Language (BSL) workshop. Together, they created a collaborative piece of choreography, which was performed as a powerful and memorable finale.
As the first event of its kind, we were delighted to be invited and look forward to seeing Silver Faces grow in the future.

Last week, our Year 9 Latin students enjoyed an inspiring trip to St Albans, bringing their studies of Roman Britain vividly to life.
At the Verulamium Roman Museum, students took part in a fascinating handling session with an archaeologist, examining real Roman artefacts and considering what they reveal about daily life and society. They also explored the galleries independently, learning about Britain’s pre-Roman tribes and the profound impact of Roman occupation, before putting their knowledge to the test with a quiz.
A walk through the park, once the site of the Roman town of Verulamium, encouraged students to imagine the layers of history still hidden beneath their feet. Highlights included viewing an impressive in-situ mosaic from a wealthy Roman villa (and spotting its hidden flaw!) as well as the remains of a hypocaust heating system. Students also learned about St Alban, Britain’s first Christian martyr, and the story of his ex*****on by the Romans.
After enjoying lunch in the sunshine, the day concluded with a visit to the remains of the Roman theatre, where preparations for the upcoming open-air performance season were underway.

Outstanding National Swimming Success at the IAPS Finals
Congratulations to Nimi (Year 5) and Zara (Year 6), who proudly represented BMS at the IAPS Swimming Finals held yesterday at the iconic London Aquatics Centre.
Both swimmers earned their place at this national event back in March, achieving top 20 qualifying times from a vast field of competitors across independent prep schools nationwide. With only one individual event permitted per swimmer, this was an exceptional achievement in itself.
Zara performed fantastically in the 50m backstroke, finishing 14th overall in the country. Nimi went on to reach the finals of the 50m freestyle, with an outstanding swim securing her 3rd place and a well-deserved bronze medal.
To be ranked 14th and 3rd nationally is a remarkable accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of both girls for their dedication, determination and sporting excellence.
