Mid Anglia Aviation partner with the BYP to teach young people to fly.
August 21st was the second of our flight days for the British Young Pilots scheme. The BYP scheme was established to provide young people of school age, nationally, with the opportunity to start the journey to gaining a pilot licence. There is no minimum age to start logging flight time and the reality is that the student could still be at school but have a pilot licence at age 17. We know, we have already done so. BYP was started at a flying school using the C42 as the training aircraft of choice and we have joined as flight partner from our base at Beccles Aerodrome. The aspiring pilots attend classroom sessions in their school environment to learn the theory of flying. The BYP provides the class with Microsoft Simulators, so when the students get to us, they have already “flown” with the simulator. Here are a couple of pics from the most recent days flying. A first in a real plane for Robert seen here with his hand on the stick as he has his first taste of real flying, and Lilly in the C42 she had just flown with instructor Gary. We are passionate about making the opportunity available to every keen young person, introducing them to the world of flying and wherever it may take them. Use the links below to learn more about learning to fly with the BYP and Mid Anglia Aviation. If you are at school, but want to find out more about the scheme – get in touch with us. We’re always happy to talk flying.

Another one of our qualified pilots flying in our Share Group has completed differences training and graduated to fly Skyleader, one of our Premium Aircraft. Nathan has been flying the Share Group C42 Bravo and wanted to fly Skyleader soon after it arrived in April 26. It is equipped with twin sticks, each with brake controls and electric trim buttons. The aircraft boasts Electric Flaps and Auto Pilot. Real perforated leather seats and door cappings, as well as adjustable foot controls, sees it epitomize the modern breed of sport aircraft. Differences training mostly involves teaching your left hand to control the stick when you are used to flying right handed. Available now for lessons and Share Group conversions. Not so sure about the socks though Nathan!

We featured her back in November 2025 when at a little over the age of 16, Lilian Fines completed her first solo. So now, even more special, her 17th birthday, was marked by passing her General Skills Test to become a qualified pilot. Examiner Gary was pleased to congratulate her in front of our C42 Bravo and then it was back to the office to complete the forms. Some teenagers if they are lucky, might take their first driving lesson on their 17th birthday, but nothing will top this achievement. Dad will have to drive her to the airfield, but once there, she can take Dad for a flight. Congratulations Lil, you are a great example of hard work and commitment. You can be very proud and even more fun lies ahead.

THE FIRST ONE TO GRADUATE IN SKYLEADER JA400.
Here is Isaac with G-MAAZ after being signed off to fly Skyleader JA400. He does look a bit pleased with himself, and so he should be. Take a look at the greaser of a landing on 27. Isaac learned to fly with us in one of our C42’s, and has been flying in our members share group for a year or two. When we first got this new aircraft, like many, Isaac instantly wanted to transition to fly it. It’s an achievement because all his flying experience has been using his right hand on the stick. JA 400 has two sticks and the PIC uses the left hand to fly the aircraft. Not only that it’s a low wing machine rather than the high wing of the C42 which does change the picture for touch down. He’s got it for sure as this touch down demonstrates. The message is this - come learn to fly with us and get the chance to progress to our premium aircraft. We have the very best of modern equipment available and you too can learn to fly it. Get in touch now while there is still availability.
