🌍❄️ Year 5 Explore Cambridge! 🏛️✏️⏰

Yesterday, our Year 5 pupils enjoyed an incredible trip to Cambridge, packed full of exploration, discovery and creativity!

Our first stop was the amazing Polar Museum, where the children had the museum entirely to themselves! 🤩 They enjoyed a fascinating guided tour of the exhibits, learning all about polar exploration and the challenges faced by adventurers in some of the world's most extreme environments.

One of the highlights was looking through a sextant 🧭, a traditional navigation instrument used by sailors and explorers to measure the angle between the horizon and the sun or stars to help determine their location. The children also had the opportunity to try on expedition clothing from both the past and present, comparing how equipment has changed over time.

After the museum visit, we walked to Parker's Piece 🌳 for lunch and some well-deserved downtime with friends before continuing our adventure.

Next, we visited the stunning King's College Chapel ⛪, where the children carefully sketched the chapel and surrounding architecture, capturing the beauty and detail of one of Cambridge's most iconic landmarks. 🎨✏️

Before returning to the coach, we made one final stop at the famous Corpus Clock ⏰. The children learned that this unique clock was designed not only to tell the time but also to remind us about the passing of time itself. Its unusual "Chronophage" (or "time-eater") appears to gobble up every second as it passes!

It was a fantastic day filled with history, science, art and exploration. A huge well done to all of Year 5 for representing the school so brilliantly! ⭐👏

Friday's Step into Science Open Afternoon was a great success, bringing together children, families and staff for an afternoon of exploration and discovery.

The school was buzzing with excitement as families took part in a variety of science activities, including fossil hunting, building fruit batteries and creating wildflower seed bombs. The hands-on experiences sparked curiosity and showed just how much fun science can be.

Thank you to all the families who came along and supported the event. Seeing children share their learning with pride made the afternoon even more special.

Today, we joined a virtual assembly celebrating disability sport and the importance of breaking down barriers. We were inspired by an incredible talk from Stef Reid, Paralympian, broadcaster and former long jump silver medallist. After losing part of her leg in a boating accident as a teenager, Stef showed remarkable resilience, going on to represent both Canada and Great Britain on the world stage and achieve Paralympic success.

Our pupils were captivated as Stef shared her journey of determination, perseverance and refusing to let challenges define her. We were all awestruck by her incredible achievements and the powerful message that barriers can be overcome with courage, hard work and self-belief. 🌟

Thank you, Stef, for reminding us that anything is possible!

🌾🍂 Harvest Festival 2026 🍂🌾

Yesterday, our school came together to celebrate Harvest Festival and reflect on the importance of kindness, gratitude and helping others in our community.

The children enjoyed taking part in a special assembly, sharing songs, learning about the meaning of harvest, and thinking about how even small acts of generosity can make a big difference.

We are so proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and wonderful participation throughout the celebration. 💛

The perks of being in Year 6 are that you get to try out all of the new equipment and activities first! 😁

Today, Mr Power visited us from Mr Wood's other school, Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, to introduce two exciting additions to school life: Now>Press>Play and Four Square.

Now>Press>Play is an immersive learning experience where children wear wireless headphones and become the main character in a curriculum-based adventure. Through sound, storytelling and movement, pupils are transported to different places and time periods, helping to bring learning to life in a fun and engaging way.

The children also had their first go at Four Square, a fast-paced playground game played on a court divided into four squares. Players bounce and pass the ball between squares, aiming to stay in the game and work their way into the top position. It’s great for developing coordination, agility, strategic thinking and teamwork.

Needless to say, Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed being our official testers and gave both activities a huge thumbs up! 🌟🎧🏐
