🌿 Another Amazing Week for our Vocational Pathway! 🌿
This week, our Vocational Pathway young people began the Volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and what a fantastic start they have made!
It was an absolute pleasure to see our young people connecting with the local community, helping with the maintenance and groundskeeping of a local cemetery.
As part of this work, they have taken a particular interest in the commemorative war graves, learning about their significance and the importance of remembering those who served. Moving forward, the group will also be supporting our local community with fundraising activities in support of veterans. 🎖️
Alongside their community work, it has been another week packed with amazing experiences — from horse riding, campcraft and bushcraft skills to animal care and cooking up a feast over an open fire! 🐴🔥🌲
We are absolutely thrilled with the way the group has started their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to get involved have been fantastic to see.
👏 Well done to our, Vocational Pathway — another brilliant week of learning, experiences and making a positive difference in our community!

🌿 This week at Acorns 🌿 the trees provided a natural canvas for hands-on learning, emotional growth, and community building. From culinary experiments over the fire to gentle moments of peer support, every corner of the woodland hummed with activity.
​🍴Culinary Adventures & Teamwork: We like to get the young people involved with making their food as much as possible. Our weekly DIY pizza is always a hit, each week the young people show better involvement and confidence. We've also added more baking sessions as this is a valuable skill to learn (plus the bonus off baking being a fantastic maths session 😀)
​🪾Woodland Stewardship: lots of our young people got involved daily with collecting wood and even helping to chop it, learning the importance of preparation and safety while keeping the camp warm and functional.
​🐓Animal Care & Connection: Feeding the goats and ducks down the farmyard is always a fun experience for the young people, teaching patience and responsibility. Up at Acorns we welcomed a couple of chickens, who have given so much joy already! Meanwhile, our camp dog Mia was a constant, comforting companion during activities.
​⚽️Physical Energy & Coordination: Sports took center stage with energetic sessions of penalty shootout and basketball, alongside friendly games that specifically focused on mastering turn-taking and teamwork.
​🌳Risk-Taking & Balance: Tree climbing, rope swings, and relaxing in hammocks allowed the children to test their physical boundaries, build core strength, and find moments of quiet self-regulation.
​🫂Empathy & Emotional Growth: Beyond the physical activities, this week shone with emotional milestones. The children practiced active listening by reading books to each other, and showed deep empathy by consoling one another during tricky moments.
🖐🏻Sensory play areas offered a grounding space for those who needed a moment to reset.
​
​This week highlighted the profound impact of a natural, semi-unstructured environment paired with supportive guidance. The children did not just learn practical life skills—like cooking and animal husbandry—they learned how to be better friends, communicators, and caretakers of their environment ☺️ Team Acorns are so proud of our young people!

🌿This week with Acorns was filled with rich, hands-on experiences across our outdoor learning environment.
🏃‍♀️🥊⛹️The children threw themselves into physical challenges, developing confidence and coordination as they navigated the climbing ropes—celebrating their height milestones with pride 👍🏻 well done Tyler! We also practiced focus and physical regulation on the boxing bag aswell as held many races throughout the week 🏃‍♀️
🖐🏻 Sensory and fine-motor exploration played a large role throughout the week. The young people engaged in texture play with water beads, enjoyed the feel of homemade kinetic sand and practiced precision and grip control using small wooden mallets during our chalk smash activity.
🐶 This week saw a new dynamic in Acorns as the young people enjoyed rich therapeutic time bonding with a new member, Mia 🐶 Many races have been run with her and snuggles have been had. Having dogs around provides profound emotional, social, and physiological benefits for young people with Special Educational Needs. Dogs offer incredible stress reduction, unconditional acceptance and emotional regulation.
🍴Practical life skills were front and center during our daily outdoor cooking. Working both individually and as a group, the young people measured, mixed, and whisked before gathering under the canopy to share meals together.
🌿 well done Acorns!! The team work so hard to provide these safe experiences for the young people, and the effort always pays off 👏🏼

🌿 Oh Acorns 🌿 what a brilliant week of learning, growing, and exploring! Our young people dove headfirst into a variety of practical skills, physical challenges, and the open outdoors 🌳🌳

​🌿 Hands-on Nature & Discovery: We spent time enjoying the true freedom of Forest School—digging in the mud, carefully inspecting wild mushrooms, and discovering frogs hiding in their natural habitats 🐞🐌🐸
​🥊Physical Power & Focus: In our boxing sessions, everyone brought incredible energy, learning self-discipline, core physical skills, and healthy ways to direct their focus.
​🍴Kitchen Confidence: Hands-on math and practical life skills were on full display as our young people helped cook, measured ingredients to bake cupcakes, and made delicious apple crumble from scratch.
​🌿Literacy & Milestones: Some of our young people chose to slow down for quiet reading time and celebrated great personal achievement as they practiced and wrote their own names 🥳
​☺️ Pure Joy: To start the week in style, we had a bubble party and to top off the incredible week, everyone got to experience the absolute highlight—a tractor ride across the grounds!

🌳 More Than Education – Our Vocational Pathway
At the Woodview Project, our Vocational Pathway is about so much more than education.
Many of the young people who come to us have experienced significant challenges within education. Some have been disengaged from learning for weeks, months or, in some cases, years. For them, simply walking through the gate and choosing to engage again can be a huge achievement.
What we are seeing now is something very special. Young people are beginning to find a place where they feel connected, cared for, supported and valued. A place where relationships and trust come first, and where learning can happen at the right pace for each individual.
Through practical, hands-on experiences, our young people are developing vocational skills, working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, learning to communicate and work alongside others, solving problems, taking responsibility and discovering what they are capable of.
But perhaps the most important progress isn't always something that can be measured on a certificate.
It's seeing a young person turn up.
Seeing them engage.
Seeing friendships and relationships develop.
Seeing confidence begin to grow.
And seeing a young person who had become disconnected from education start to belong, believe and thrive again.
That's what our Vocational Pathway is really about. 🌿
Connection. Relationships. Skills. Confidence. Opportunity.

🌳 Learning Through Play, Exploration & Each Other 🌳
Some of the most valuable learning at The Woodview Project happens naturally through shared experiences and play. Whether our young people are making pizzas together, exploring messy and sensory play, riding bikes, problem-solving or simply spending time alongside one another, they are developing important skills without learning feeling like a traditional lesson.
These experiences create opportunities to communicate, cooperate, take turns, share resources and build relationships. Young people learn to recognise and respond to social cues, negotiate with one another, manage emotions and understand personal boundaries — all within a supportive and nurturing environment. 💚
Play also gives our young people the freedom to experiment, make choices, solve problems and learn through trial and error. There isn't always a "right" way to learn; sometimes the greatest progress comes from having the confidence to have a go, get messy, make mistakes and try again.
At Woodview, we recognise that social interaction, communication, independence, emotional regulation and confidence are learning too — and for many of our young people, these experiences can be just as important as anything taught in a classroom. 🌿
Learning together. Playing together. Growing together.

🌿 Another Fabulous Day at The Woodview Project! 🌿
Amelia has had another wonderful day with us! 💚
We started the morning with some water play, where Amelia had great fun making her own “soup” and experimenting with pouring and transferring water from one container to another. 💦🥣 Activities like these are not only great fun, but also encourage exploration, coordination and independence.

The afternoon was all about slowing things down in our Chill Zone. 🌳 Amelia enjoyed relaxing beneath the trees, watching the branches sway above her and taking in the peaceful woodland surroundings.

There was even some creative problem-solving when a well-loved book came apart — Amelia thoroughly enjoyed trying to piece the pages back together again, just like a puzzle! 🧩📚

Another lovely example of how learning at Woodview can happen through play, exploration, nature and everyday experiences. 🌿

Small moments, meaningful learning and happy young people. 💚

The term has begun and our little acorns are in full spirit making and creating in such a beautiful space. There is no better way to learn than through experiential learning.
