We would like to take this opportunity to wish each of our leavers the very best at ‘big school’. We know you are ready, will be fantastic and will embrace the next stage of your educational journey. Please do not forget us. We look forward to hearing how you are getting on when we see you around and about.

To everyone else, Preschool returns on Tuesday 8 September – see you then.

Thank you to everyone for a great 2025/2026 academic year. Wishing you all a fabulous summer.

Coombe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park

We have just returned from an amazing Preschool day out at the Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, where we have had a fabulous day. Highlights included the sealion show, the monkeys, gibbons, wolves, birds of prey, indoor soft-play area and dinosaurs - some of which moved and/or sprayed water!! Most children left completely exhausted (parents too) but I think everyone had a really lovely time – we certainly did!

Sea Animals
30 June – 16 July 2026

Our last 3 weeks of this term, still under the umbrella theme of Animals, was Sea Animals with a particular focus on the Snail and the Whale and Sharing a Shell stories from Julia Donaldson.

The children have enjoyed playing with the beach/sea animals tuff spot, aqua draw, splashy whale, spinning tops and fidget toys, train set, interstars, giant peg board, musical instruments, colouring, tractors, magnetic toys and climbing frame. Then in our last week, we changed a few things to incorporate some favourite toys including ride-ons, blocks and bricks, stickle bricks and the fairy castle. We have also managed to keep the children cool throughout the recent heat-wave, but ensured that they have had the opportunity to play in the Preschool garden each morning before it became too warm.

Alongside this, we have been taking graduation photos, doing sports day practice and having our actual Sports Day, where all of the children were amazing – thank you everyone who came along to cheer them through their races. Thank you also to Highampton Primary School who also came out to cheer on our Preschool.

Wild/Zoo Animals
16 – 25 June

Still under our Animals theme, we focussed this time on Wild and Zoo Animals with our book focus split between Monkey Puzzle and Giraffe’s Can’t Dance, which the children listened to and watched.

The children finished off their Father’s Day Cards and presents this week – I hope all of the Daddy’s appreciated the work and love that the children put into them. We did some tiger counting, some wild animal dot to dot, some detailed painting using the water colours, played with the Monkey Puzzle game and the Number Jugglers activity. In addition, the children enjoyed the Peppa Pig toys, Noah’s Ark, hedgehogs and pegs, hedgehog stacking game, name writing and white board writing practice, wild animal tuff spot, wooden blocks, 3D shape puzzles, balls and hoops, large tractors and polydrons.

We also spent lots of time trying to stay cool in the very hot weather, so we played outside in the mornings when it was cool and tried to play games and do activities that didn’t involve too much energy in the afternoons. The children also enjoyed playing in the ice tuff spot and rescuing our baby animals from the ice.

We also went for a couple of walks to see the cows.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
21 – 30 April 2026

This term the overall theme is Favourite stories and we began with ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The children have enjoyed listening/joining in with this story whilst it is being read, watching the animated version, and watching/ joining in/dancing to the song. The children also put pictures form the story into order as part of a story sequencing observation and used their recall of the story to retell the events with the wooden characters from the story in a tuff spot.
In addition to this the children made a British flag to bring home for St George’s Day, completed a shapes observation, practiced the continuation of patterns using our electronic game and planted potatoes in the garden. In addition to this they have played with the playdough, shapes puzzles, ICT equipment, drawn pictures and made words with magnetic letters on the A’Frame, played in the shapes tuff spot, constructed using the bricks, blocks and stones, played with the small world airport, planes and helicopters, played on the ride-ons, with the number cushions, sensory toys, small wooden blocks, etch-a-sketch and played outside when the weather permitted.
