We are delighted to introduce our new Honesty Box Shop, which has been created to provide children with valuable real-life learning opportunities.

The shop offers a small selection of affordable items, including toys, birthday cards, stationery, seeds for planting, build-your-own kits and seasonal fruit and vegetables grown here at the nursery.

Operating on a trust basis, the Honesty Box Shop encourages children to develop important numeracy and money-handling skills in a practical and meaningful way. If your child receives pocket money or would like a special treat, they can choose an item and place the correct payment into the honesty box themselves.

Different nursery groups will take turns using the shop throughout the year, ensuring every child has the opportunity to benefit from this enjoyable learning experience.

A group of children were fortunate enough to attend the Commonwealth Games Fan Zone at Kelvingrove Park, where they enjoyed a fantastic day filled with exciting activities.

The children had the opportunity to try a range of sporting events, watch the games on the big screen, meet some of the official mascots and even win their own Commonwealth Games merchandise. To round off the day, everyone enjoyed a well-earned ice cream before heading back to nursery.

The trip was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience the excitement of a major sporting event while encouraging physical activity, confidence and teamwork. It was a memorable day that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Pre-School Graduation for the Class of 2026.

Despite the unpredictable weather, it was a wonderful celebration of everything our children have achieved during their time at Buchanan Nursery. It was lovely to see families come together to celebrate this important milestone, and we hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we did.

As another group of children prepares to begin primary school, we would like to wish each and every one of them the very best for the future.

It has been a privilege to watch them grow in confidence, develop new skills and build lasting friendships during their time at Buchanan Nursery. While we will miss seeing their smiling faces each day, we are incredibly proud of how ready they are for this next exciting chapter.

Please do come back and visit us when you have settled into school, and don't forget to send us a photograph from your first day. We love adding these special memories to our school leavers' display for the children who are still with us.

The children on the lower floor have been making the most of the beautiful summer weather by spending lots of time outdoors. Nature walks have allowed them to explore the changing seasons, observe flowers in bloom and discover the world around them through hands-on experiences.

The Buchanan Nursery Honesty Box Shop officially opened on Tuesday 2nd June.

The shop contains a small selection of affordable items, including small toys, birthday cards, seeds for growing, stationery, build-your-own kits, and seasonal fruit and vegetables grown by the nursery.

The children have the opportunity to develop important numeracy skills through real-life experiences. The shop operates on a trust basis, and if your child receives pocket money or would like a special treat, they can select an item and place the correct amount of money into the honesty box.

We believe this hands-on approach will make learning both practical and enjoyable.

Thank you to all the parents who came into nursery to read stories to the children in a variety of different languages.

The children showed great interest in exploring storybooks and hearing different sounds and words in Czech, German, Chinese, French and Slovak. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate different cultures and languages while encouraging a love of reading.

the warmer weather. The grassy hill area has been particularly popular, where children have been practising balancing through obstacle courses and working together in teams using the swings.

Imaginative play has been encouraged through activities such as creating games and digging for dinosaur fossils. The children have also been involved in developing the garden area, including the introduction of a pond where tadpoles are now growing. This has supported learning around life cycles in a hands-on and engaging way.

Loose parts play and water play have also been a key part of the month, particularly within the “potion station,” where children have enjoyed experimenting and exploring. Responsive topics have included butterflies, dogs, dressing up, and spring, all of which have been led by the children’s interests.

The children on the lower floor have had a busy and engaging month, particularly with their Easter celebrations. Through these activities, they explored patterns and colours while taking part in a variety of creative experiences.

Outdoor play has been a strong focus, with children developing their balancing and coordination skills in the garden. They have also been learning about planting and nature, taking an active interest in the outdoor environment.

Our babies and tots have continued to build strong relationships with staff and each other. They have enjoyed outdoor walks and spending time exploring the grassy areas, supporting both their physical development and social skills.
