Last week we celebrated Diwali in all of the nursery room, the babies explored a tuff tray to move the rice around. The toddlers tried to create their own patterns and was making snips in the paper plate to make fireworks. While the preschool children used clay to create Diya's and our own henna patterns on to a hand.

Last week in our forest school session we used sticks and wool to teach the children how to weave in and out of the sticks, these were for Remembrance day where we created our own poppies. The children stayed engaged and focused and worked as a team which they helped each other.

On Friday the preschool went on a walk to collect the conkers which at first it looked like they were all gone and then we kept searching and found lots! We learned the name of the conker tree being the chestnut tree.

We went to collect the conkers ready to start out tool work for forest school in the next couple of weeks.

Look out for our upcoming post in the next few weeks to see how creative we have been!

On Thursday we did our weekly forest school session we started with our sticky elbows and hazards where the children were able to recall the hazards we had previous identified but one child added a new one of we can't eat blackberries.
When asked why can't we eat blackberries?
Because we need to wash them.

We then went on to start our activity of clay faces all the children thoroughly enjoyed this activity picking natural objects to add to the clay. The children first pushed the clay against the tree to create the shape they wanted and added on leaves/ sticks. Some Children used sticks to make marks on the clay.

We then went on and found the perfect space to start our den building in the next couple of weeks.

When we were leaving the woods we did sticky elbows to count all children and adults, Helen stayed slightly behind toi see if the children would remember how many adult went in to the woods which they noticed straight away. Well done preschool!

Yesterday was dessert day so our preschool children were given the choice in what they would like to make to take home - the children decided to make jam tarts. All the children joined in by starting to make the pastry where they stirred the mixture. After a while the children then had to kneed the dough using the palm of their hands and then they used the rolling pin to roll it out nice flat, and even. After wards they used the cutter to cut the pastry out they needed and them put the jam in. Once they were cooked they looked delicious! You never know we may see our future Gordon Ramsey's on the bake off one day!

Today was our third session of forest school but for some children it was their first sessions so today was important to go over what other children had already learnt about the forest school to ensure everyone always remains safe.
As always we started our session off with safety spies and sticky elbows which they did fantastic counting and knew how many children and adult was needed to come back out of the woods. We then discussed our hazards the children are starting to really understand the word stop and look around for any dangers. We respoke about the hazards which the children identified - dogs, tree roots, stinging nettles, holly, the ground.
We then went on a nature hunt to see what we could find which we collected in a bag ready for an activity based on teamwork.
During forest school sessions it is important to always listen to the voice of the child as it is a child led experience. After collections the leaves and sticks one child started to draw a house using a stick which is fantastic for their imagination and another child came up with the idea of making a camp fire so they all worked together to put the sticks together and even found some larger ones and if they were too big they were asking for help to make them smaller. They then added the leaves on top for the flames, all the children worked together and building stronger relationships with each other as well as listening to each others ideas.
Look out for our next post of our forest school journey!

Mental health day - Thursday 10th October 2024

The staff at Childcare 4 U Beaconsfield was treated to hot chocolate, cakes, a variety of biscuits, popcorn, marshmallow, and whipped cream as part of our celebration of Staff Mental and Well-Being Day. The extra fifteen minutes of break for staff members was a awarded as good will and gesture . The staff room was tastefully decorated with cushions and inspirational quotes all around. In addition, soothing music was playing in the background. There was a lot of love and laughter in the staff room.

The team was given lovely self-care bags at the conclusion. (Mud mask, eye mask, drink can lip balm, glow sheet mask, hand cream, and, last but not least, positive feedback from the manager and team).

Last week we did our second forest school session with our preschool which they absolutely loved. All the children were excited and starting to understand the rules and routine of the woods, they thoroughly enjoying using a child-led approach and starting to know what stop means, whether that means there is a hazard or we have to wait for our friend.
We firstly did the safety spies and sticky elbows which we counted all the children and adults which this helps the children to improve their counting skills as well as being curious to others.
We then went on a bug hunt which the children were kind and caring to each other sharing the magnifying glasses and showing each other what they had found. They then said bye to the worms after they had seen them. Lastly the children continues to explore in the woods, recalling events of the week before of knowing the puddle was massive due to the rainfall we have had. Of course the children had fantastic fun jumping in the muddy puddle.

We look forward to the adventure of the third session tomorrow.

Welcome to our brilliant Toddler room, where we support children from the ages of 2-3 years getting them ready to move into Pre-school.
All children have a key person/ secondary key person, this allows nursery practioners to build relationships and use the key person approach to form strong bonds with the children, which is part of our curriculum.
In Toddler room as we prepare children for Pre-school, we liase with parents in supporting children with potty training. We encourage children and support them to understand their care needs, further developing their Physical social and emotional development.
We also strive to support children's independence by assisting with meal times for example. Supporting children with drinking from an open cup and correctly using their cutlery at the table. Personal hygiene is also very important, so we engage with the children to support with them independently washing hands and wiping noses.
We do sensory classes which was inspired by our Manager Sonia that has a wealth of experience of leading sensory classes with children from babies to toddlers age ranges.
We also join with babies and do music sessions with Curly Cath. Both Toddlers and Babies love their weekly session, where they will move and dance to music and become very excited whilst doing so.
Playball is also a huge part of Toddler room routine and is very much loved by all. Coach Emma leads the sessions and sets up activity and games to help support the development in their physical development.
We follow children's interests to support their development and curiosity of the environment/the world. This is why we regularly take our children on walks to the shop for example to buy ingredients to cook or bake with during the week. We also enjoy visiting the library where we borrow books that the children are interested in. Language and communication is such a big part of a child's nursery journey so we provide a language enriched environment. We read core stories and sing core songs which the children seek out and will copy key phrases and words. This is also supported with props and songs spoons,. The children love to dress up in Old MacDonalds farm costumes.

A few weeks back the preschool children and the nursery manager Sonia made some delicious Naan bread for the staff and children which they all loved!

The method we used :

combining the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl, then whisk to combine.

Stir with a fork until the dough comes together.

Dust your hands with flour and knead into a soft, sticky ball.

Cover with plastic wrap.

Let rise in a warm spot until about doubled in size, 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Hint: the warmer the spot, the faster it will rise.

Roll the dough into a rectangle, adding more flour as necessary so it doesn’t stick.

Place the dough in the hot, dry skillet and cook until the surface is full of air bubbles and the bottom is browned and blistered in spots.

Flip the naan and cook a few minutes more.

Ready to eat.

Today in preschool we have created an apple pie as on a Friday the preschool children become the chefs!

The children helped to cut the apples, then our chef Kelly cooked them to ensure they were nice and soft. Once the apples had cooled down we mixed them with cinnamon, flour, and sugar. We then place them in the pastry and put the pastry on top which Rosie made a nice design for the top!
