I haven’t been posting recently, we’ve had a difficult time, my Dad passed away recently and my mother-in-law two weeks later. It’s been hard and I haven’t felt like sharing.

But I received this lovely message yesterday and wanted to share here to remind you that my classes will help you have better pregnancy and birth - you should do them!

Also, because reading this message on a down day reminded me why I do what I do. The right birth preparation can have a huge impact on your experience of pregnancy - and a positive birth can have a huge impact on you for life.

Conversely, a ‘bad’ birth experience can affect you negatively for years - I was there after my first.

So seek out a class with a ‘positive, happy atmosphere’ and a ‘positive attitude towards birth’ and if you’re near Beaconsfield, Bucks you can come to mine.

And if you’re not, but you’d still like to prepare for your birth with me, you can join my ‘Pregnancy Yoga for a Better Birth’ course. Message me for a joining link.

🌟 Often people tell me they’d never heard a positive birth story before coming to my classes.

🌟 Why is that? Is it because no one ever has a great birth? Absolutely not!

🌟 Lots of women from my classes have fantastic births every single week. By ‘fantastic’ I don’t mean ‘pain free’ or ‘quick’ or ‘easy’.

🌟 They have intense, sometimes long, sometimes short, sometimes hard work, sometimes a breeze labours. But they generally come out of labour feeling positive, empowered and happy with their birth experience.

🌟 Why don’t we talk about those births more? I know there are a few reasons - one being not wanting to trigger people who have had a ‘bad’ birth experience (my first-birth was awful so I get this completely). Another reason - people feel they are being boastful if they say their birth was great, so they keep quiet.

🌟 But if we don’t talk about the fact that birth can be wonderful and we only share negative birth stories we are perpetuating the fear that birth is awful and something to dread.

🌟 And that fear going into labour is one of the main things that contributes to a poor birth experience (along with over-medicalisation and malposition).

🌟 When we start labour from a place of excitement, rather than fear, we often see much better outcomes. This was a huge element in why my second birth was fantastic after my first ‘bad’ birth, when I was unprepared and scared.

🌟 Swipe to see 6 of the messages I’ve received over the last couple of weeks from the women I teach. Each brimming with excitement about their birth.

🌟 If you had a ‘bad’ previous birth experience please know it can be very different next time round. I recommend pregnancy yoga and hypnobirthing - the winning combination of movement and mindset, it makes all the difference.

🌟Back to Postnatal Yoga today and very happy to see Charlene and her beautiful daughter Grace.

🌟 You might remember Char from the incredible birth story I shared last week - it was the one where she’d planned her home birth but there were no midwives available, so she started to leave for hospital (but Grace was already on the way). So Char went back inside, got in the birth pool and had her baby, with just her husband and sister for support - yes absolutely incredible!

🌟 And this is Char and Grace today at my Mum & Baby Yoga class. It’s always such a treat to get to see the mums I teach after birth and get to meet their beautiful babies, definitely a perk of teaching postnatal yoga!

🌟 See Char’s birth story on my page or read the full account on my website.

🌟 My Mum & Baby Yoga classes take place on Thurs mornings and run in 6 week blocks, so everyone starts and finishes together. On week 2 we go to lunch so everyone can get to know each other - having mum friends is so important after birth, as postnatal life can feel a bit lonely if you don’t have family or friends close by.

🌟 Classes are always busy so do get your name down early for November if you’d like to join the next block of classes.

🌟 Positive unplanned home birth 🌟

What happens when you’re planning a home birth using the NHS home birth team but there are no midwives available when you’re in labour?

For most people you will change to Plan B and head into hospital for a hospital birth. Which is why it’s always useful to prepare a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C for your birth.

Charlene didn’t have that option once she had the urge to push as she was about to leave the house!

What followed was the most fantastic birth, in the pool, with her husband and sister for support 💜

Swipe for the abridged version of Charlene’s story, or head to my website for the full story. You’ll find this and many birth stories from the women I teach there.

I’m so happy Charlene got the beautiful home birth she was hoping for and am thrilled to have been a small part of her journey.

If you are a first-time mum please don’t let this worry you, whilst unplanned home births do happen, it is almost always a second or third (or more) birth, it’s incredibly rare for a first-time birth to be so fast that you won’t make it to hospital.

Thank you Charlene for generously sharing your story and for the beautiful photos!
