We are delighted to celebrate another year of strong GCSE results at The Hurst School. Our Attainment 8 score is above target and has improved on last year, reflecting the hard work, determination and commitment of our students, alongside the dedication of our teaching staff.

Many of our students have achieved grades that have exceeded their target expectations, demonstrating their motivation, resilience and effective study skills. We are particularly pleased with the performance in English and Maths, where the proportion of students achieving grades 5+ is at its highest level for three years.

Key highlights

Attainment 8 is above target and has improved from last year.
English and Maths grades 7+ are above expectations.
20% of students achieved grades 7+ in Maths.
17.4% of students achieved grades 7+ in English.
Science students achieved grades in line with, and above, their predicted targets.
86% of students achieved Level 2 or above in Hospitality and Catering.

Headteacher Jayne McLaren said:

“Congratulations to all our students on their results and on the hard work they have put in to achieve these grades. I would also like to thank our teaching team, who have worked so hard to support our students and help them reach their full potential.

“I am particularly proud of our Attainment 8 results. This is a key measure of school performance, and our improvement this year demonstrates that The Hurst School is continuing to go from strength to strength.”

Student Charlotte H who achieved 2 x Grade 9s in Maths and Further Maths, 6 x Grade 7s and 2 x Grade 8s said she was really pleased with her results. “I am really pleased with the grades I have achieved. I am going to Peter Symonds to study Maths, Chemistry and Biology, and my plan is to then study Medicine at University.”

Congratulations to all our students and our highest achievers, Daisy L who got 2 x Grade 9s, 6 x Grade 7s and 2 x Grade 8s, and Ben S who achieved 4 x Grade 9s, 2 x Grade 8s and 2 x Grade 7s.

We hope our students have a fantastic day celebrating with their friends and family.

BBC South Today were in school today filming a news report about how schools are coping in the heat. They visited Mr Stoten’s year 9 History class and the journalist interviewed students Sofia, Rosie and Thomas who all spoke brilliantly and eloquently about how they are dealing with the hot weather. Well done to them!
You can watch it on IPlayer from tonight’s 6:30pm news programme.
