Our dachshunds love the heat don't they! Yesterday Domino decided it wasn't quite warm enough so lay out sunbathing on a small piece of astro turf to ensure he baked evenly on both sides!

Like tarmac, astro-turf can store and retain heat and depending on how hot it is, it may get too hot!

In the UK our dogs aren't used to the warm weather....nor are we for that matter! So heatstroke is unfortunately very common.

It is better to be overcautious and prepared, than to take the risk. Heat stroke kills dogs very quickly and painfully.....please do not take that chance!

If you have to travel on hot days, make sure you take extra water, wet some towels and freeze them to keep their crates cool. Freeze some water in a bowl and then add some to the top when you stop. Make sure the air circulates around the car. Get reflective covers for crates. Take lots of stops.

There are lots of things we can do on these lovely days to ensure our daxies enjoy the warmth safely.

I have an unusual day off, so me and the dogs will be found sunbathing (safely) and I will absolutely not be studying whilst I do it!
