GCSE Results Celebrate Individual Journeys at Battle Abbey School
Battle Abbey School is celebrating the achievements of its GCSE pupils, with some fantastic individual performances across the year group.

More than 50% of all pupils achieved at least one grade 8 or 9 and four out of five achieved at least one grade 7 to 9. Creative Arts continues to excel with 100% of pupils achieving grades 9-6 in Fine Art; and 40% achieving grade 8 or 9 in Fine Art or Textiles. Our strength in Physics and Mathematics remains with 93% achieving grades 9 – 6 in Physics, the cohort having already achieved an impressive 70% of grades 9 - 6 in Mathematics, with a third achieving grades 8 or 9.

Our accelerated learning programme has again secured the top grades for pupils outside of Year 11, with 100% achieving 8 -9 grades.

Headteacher Hannah Blake said:
“GCSE Results Day is always a special occasion and it has been lovely to spend the morning celebrating with our pupils, families and staff to recognise the hard work and progress that sit behind these results. Every pupil arrives at Battle Abbey with different strengths, aspirations and challenges. Our staff help each individual to discover what they are capable of, develop confidence in themselves and be ready for the next stage of their journey. We are so proud of everyone in Year 11; their individual successes matter to us and are at the heart of what education at Battle Abbey is about.”

Poppy Horne, Head of Year 11, added:
“This is a year group of remarkable young people who should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. Individually some exceptional academic performances include Hector S who achieved five grade 9s and three grade 8s and Tanisha C who achieved an outstanding set of results, including three grade 9s and three grade 8s.

For many, the next chapter will be here at Battle Abbey as they progress into our Sixth Form, while others will pursue opportunities elsewhere. Whatever their next step, we are immensely proud of what they have achieved and are excited to see what they go on to do."

Battle Abbey School has posted a fantastic set of A Level results this year, with over a third of all grades awarded at A* and A, and over half of all grades at A* to B. Two thirds of pupils achieved at least one A or A* grade, with many securing two or three.

Headteacher Hannah Blake said:
"We are delighted with an incredibly strong set of results, reflecting the hard work and ambition of our pupils and staff. We are pleased to report that A Level Results Day was filled with smiles and that around 80% of our leavers have secured their first-choice destination.
It has been wonderful to reminisce with families this morning about the journey that individual pupils have been on and the role that our inclusive school community and our values of belonging, aspiration and service have played in helping them discover more about themselves and who and what they want to be become.
Increasingly, we are finding that pupils at Sixth Form level are following less prescribed educational pathways. Rather than taking a single traditional route, many are diversifying into apprenticeships, practical training and roles in the workplace. Among them is Euan H, who will leave us to take a paid role as a Paralegal at a law firm; Archie D, who will be taking up a position in aeroplane brokerage; and Alex F, who is in the process of applying for a marketing internship at Sony.
Of course, many pupils are still choosing a more traditional academic route. This year, Alex C will be going to Cambridge to study Electrical Engineering, while Alex W's outstanding musicianship will see him progress to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to study Music. Ella S will be heading to Exeter to study History and Archaeology.
We have a number of pupils progressing to universities to undertake courses as diverse as Viticulture, Oenology and Business Management, Illustration, Journalism, Drama, Film and Television, Digital Marketing, and Law.
Special mention should also go to Alex C and Oscar B who both achieved four A* grades in their subjects and Ethan N, who attended A Level Results Day a year early to collect his second A* grade.”

As the week drew to a close, the finishing touches were being added to the decorations in Abbotts Hall and the Library as preparations got underway for the Year 12 and 13 Summer Ball. After a week of exceptionally hot weather, the temperature had cooled just in time for the evening. Following the recent storms, pupils were also treated to a dramatic and beautiful skyline, providing the perfect backdrop for photographs before the celebrations began. Our Catering Department excelled once again, serving a delicious three-course meal that was enjoyed by everyone. During the evening, the Guardians presented a series of light-hearted awards, including Best Dressed in each year group, who was most likely to return to Battle Abbey as a member of staff, and even who was most likely to forget where they had parked their car! The celebrations continued with music from the DJ, a packed dance floor, and plenty of fun in the photo booth, ensuring there were lots of memories captured from the evening. The school community came together to celebrate another successful year and give our Year 13 students the send-off they deserved as they prepare for the next exciting chapter of their lives. The Guardians would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the pupils and staff who helped decorate the venue and make the Summer Ball such a memorable success.
