Howden Clough Tigers Number 10 Signs for Sheffield Wednesday academy 👏🏼

Everyone at Howden Clough JFC is incredibly proud to announce that our Under 10 Tigers player, Zaki Zaman, has signed for Sheffield Wednesday academy Under-9s.

Zaki joined Howden Clough U10s from Thornhill and immediately made an impression. Playing a year above his age group, he stood out from the very beginning, producing outstanding performances throughout pre-season and quickly becoming a key player for the Tigers.

What makes Zaki’s journey even more remarkable is the resilience he has shown. Shortly after joining Howden Clough, he suffered a devastating double ankle break at an off-season football festival. The injury kept him out of action until January 2026, but throughout his rehabilitation he remained a fantastic teammate, supporting everyone around him with a positive attitude and unwavering commitment.

Since returning, Zaki has gone from strength to strength. His technical ability, creativity and maturity have earned him promotion to play a year above his age group once again, representing Sheffield Wednesday Under-10s against some of the country’s top academies, including Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Sheffield United.

His former Howden Clough coach, Ryan, said:

“I appreciate him so much. He’s really kind, compassionate and committed and that’s why I’ve always had a lot of time for him. He’s a brilliant player and an even better person”

Another of Zaki’s coaches, Andy, added:

“Zaki is the most naturally gifted player I’ve seen for a long time.”

The respect is mutual. When Zaki signed for Sheffield Wednesday, one of the first things he wanted to do was let his coaches at Howden Clough know, recognising the huge part they played in his development. It speaks volumes about his character and appreciation for those who have supported him throughout his journey.

Everyone at Howden Clough is immensely proud of Zaki and wishes him every success as he continues to develop at Sheffield Wednesday Academy. His achievement is also a testament to the dedication of the club’s coaches and volunteers 🧡🖤

Zaki will always be part of the Howden Clough family, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Congratulations, Zaki, we’re all behind you. Good luck on the next chapter of your football journey!
Yourself and your amazing parents Star and Lisa will always be part of our Clough Family and you will be deeply missed by everyone in u10s. Keep up this amazing journey you deserve it mate.

⚽ U9s MATCH REPORT ⚽

A tough test for the team today as we came up against a very well-drilled and competitive side who moved the ball brilliantly and put us under plenty of pressure.

But what was fantastic to see was our heads never dropped! 💪 Every single player kept working, kept battling and kept supporting their teammates right until the end. There was some brilliant teamwork on show and our set pieces were excellent — unfortunately, they just weren’t to be today!

Plenty of positives to take away, and games like this are all part of learning, improving and developing together as a team. We couldn’t ask for more from the players in terms of their effort and attitude. 👏⚽

🌟 Opposition Player of the Match – Lucie
Some lovely touches and great moments on the ball. Well done, Lucie!

🏆 Player of the Match – Oliver
A fantastic performance between the sticks. Oliver never gave up and pulled off some excellent saves against a relentless attack. Brilliant determination from start to finish! 🧤👏

Heads up, keep working and keep enjoying our football.

On to next week! ⚽💪

TIGERS v BPA

What a performance from everyone today. Honestly couldn’t be prouder.

We came up against a really good Park Avenue side, but the way the team approached the game was outstanding. Our aim was to start solid, stay organised, then grow into the match – and that’s exactly what we did.

We played some brilliant football, confidently working the ball out from the back, using the wide areas well and creating some fantastic chances.

Arthur Sweeney opened the scoring with an absolute worldie from outside the box! After all the hours spent “practising” by smashing the ball against the neighbour’s fence, it definitely paid off with a fantastic strike into the roof of the net! ⚽😂

We stayed calm and composed throughout. Even when Park Avenue put us under heavy pressure in the second quarter, the players never panicked, they kept working for each other and continued to play the football we’ve been encouraging.

⭐ Player of the Match – Arthur Wood ⭐

Arthur captained the side today as a reward for being trainer of the week, and he absolutely led by example. He was constantly talking to his teammates, listening to instructions, making great decisions and then sacrificed his own position so Isaac could enjoy some time playing outfield. A brilliant captain’s performance and thoroughly deserved. Outstanding, Arthur!

That said, every single player should be incredibly proud today. This wasn’t about individuals – it was about the team. The effort, teamwork, attitude and desire to help one another were there for everyone to see.

Well done, Tigers! 🟠⚫️🟠

🟠⚫️ Match Report — Howdenclough U12 Lionesses vs Beacon

Today the Lionesses travelled to Beacon and were greeted by a pitch that looked more like a ski slope than a football field. With the downhill run in the first half, the message was simple: execute your finishes and make the slope work for you.

Despite the ball rolling out of play countless times, Millie Maud reacted quickest on the attacking end, finding the opener and putting us 1–0 up.

Second Half — Uphill Battle

Turning around meant climbing the slope, literally and figuratively. At half‑time the instruction was clear:
Find easy passes. Conserve energy. Stay disciplined.

Beacon pushed hard downhill, but our defence stepped up massively — winning challenges, staying organised, and refusing to let the pressure break them. It became a tight, even contest, and the coaches knew a second goal would be crucial.

Ten minutes before the end, Ellie delivered a brilliant cross, finding Millie Glyde perfectly positioned to slot home and secure the 2–0 victory.

Final Score: 2–0 Howdenclough

A tough away performance, handled with maturity and grit.
Great unbeaten start to the season

Girls of the Game

• Away Girl of the Game — Ellie
As a winger, she put in a huge defensive shift. Tireless, disciplined, and brave.
• Joint Home Girls of the Game — Freya & Summer
Both were relentless. Won every ball, never backed down, and set the tone for the team’s fight.

Windy conditions and a well-organised Greenland Girls side made for a challenging game on grass, but the girls kept trying right to the final whistle. 🧡🖤
