Hollie Guard is a free mobile app that turns your mobile phone into a personal safety device. Named after, Hollie Gazzard, a 20yr old hairdresser from Gloucester who was murdered by her ex-partner in 2014.

Features.
- A simple shake or tap activates Hollie Guard.

- On activation, Hollie Guard will notify chosen trusted contacts with user location, audio and video evidence.

- Two modes:
1.Deterrent Mode.
Makes it clear to persons in your surrounding area that an Alert has been raised. Anyone who looks at the phone will see that GPS location is being monitored and audio/video evidence uploaded. Phone will display ‘alert raised’.

2.Stealth Mode.
Stealth mode activates a silent alert with no obvious signs of activation to keep the alert as discreet as possible. The phone will put a wallpaper up to look as though it’s on your home screen.

- Journey feature: Set your start & end destinations before setting off. Your emergency contacts will be notified once you arrive safely at your chosen destination. An alert will be automatically triggered if you don't arrive at your destination within the time parameters you've sent. Every 5 seconds the platform will update your precise location based on your speed & movement activity to identify where you are once an alert has been raised.

- Meeting feature: Set designated duration for a meeting & alert emergency contacts if you don’t mark yourself as safe before the time has lapsed. Once the timer expires an alert will be raised automatically, enabling your emergency contacts to pin-point where you are so they can call for help or request an emergency response.

- Reports feature: Users can quickly & easily record an incident with supporting photo evidence that is automatically categorised, time stamped and geo tagged then saved to the Hollie Guard server.

- Man down feature: Automatically detects if you have a sudden fall or have stopped moving for a period of time

BREAKING: A landmark win for kids' online safety 📱

Meta just reached a settlement with 47 states, D.C., and U.S. territories over claims it knowingly built addictive platforms for kids — agreeing to pay up to $17.1 billion in penalties and overhaul how teens use Instagram and Facebook.

What's changing for teen accounts:
→ 2-hour daily time limit across FB + Instagram (parent permission required to lift it)
→ No access midnight–6am; notifications silenced 10pm–7am
→ Likes hidden by default
→ "Extreme" beauty filters blocked
→ Option for a non-algorithmic feed + autoplay off
→ Stronger age verification + new parental controls

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb called it "a monumental public health victory for young people" — and noted Meta won't be the last platform to settle.

The deal still needs a judge's sign-off, but the message is clear: the tide is turning on Big Tech's grip on kids' attention.

This is why Wait Until 8th exists: to give kids a childhood before the algorithm gets a vote. The wind is finally at our backs!

Moving my son Sam from West Calder to Armadale to a different pool and changing his schedule will have a severe, detrimental impact on Sams physical health, emotional well-being, and social development. It will also significantly disrupt our vital support network as his carers.

1. Impact on Health and Physical MobilityMobility Support:
Sam faces significant mobility challenges. Swimming is not just recreation for him; it is a critical form of physical therapy that maintains his strength and movement.Routine and Sensory Needs: Due to his Down syndrome, visual impairment, and hearing impairment, consistency is vital. The current pool is a familiar environment where he knows the layout, the lighting, and the acoustics.
The Risk of Change: Forcing him into a new pool environment with different sensory inputs creates an immediate safety risk, increases his anxiety, and may cause him to reject swimming entirely, leading to a decline in his fitness.

2. Impact on Friendships and Social Life Skills Irreplaceable Friendships:
Over time Sam has built deep bonds and genuine friendships with the peers in his current session. Because of his communication barriers, these relationships are incredibly precious and difficult to form.
Loss of Community: Changing his time isolates him from the very community that accepts him. It robs him of the peer group that motivates him to participate and thrive.
Life Skills Development:
The consistency of this club teaches him independence and essential life skills. A sudden, enforced change shatters the routine he relies on to feel secure and successful.

3. Critical Impact on Me as a Carer
Essential Respite:
The current swimming slot provides me with predictable, reliable respite. Caring for a young adult with complex needs is a 24/7 role, and this specific time allows me to recharge or manage other essential duties.
Logistical Impossibility:
Our current schedule is carefully balanced around Sam’s other care needs, therapies, and transport. A time change creates a domino effect that disrupts our entire weekly structure, causing unnecessary stress and hardship, which could transpire to us not being able to attend swimming at all .
We need X-cite to allow us to keep the continuity of our sessions at West Calder for all the above listed points and put our swimmers mental and physical well being above their own unclear agenda .
