Just to say the RAS Garden Volunteer Group no longer meets to do gardening at Ralph Allen School. Just to acknowledge the 7 years of amazing work done by volunteers who came along to maintain the amazing Lee 6th Form Centre garden from 2016 onwards till 2023. Thanks to RAS parents Niki, Marianne and Britt who started it along with grandparent Liz and the many other who ended up being an amazing small but committed group who turned up every month in rain or shine... especially Rachel, Nick, Gita in the end and thanks to headteacher Andy Greenhough who joined us often and initiated the autumn tulip planting sessions which will hopefully keep coming up each spring for years to come. There are whole bunch of trees that will hopefully remain there as a reminder of this lovely collective , caring and active community. We so enjoyed being outside together doing something for our school in community. The brilliant group logo was created by a RAS student as we ran a competition with the art department. Memories of connection, w**ding, laughter, tea breaks, pruning, learning, fruit picking, mulching, tree planting, tulip planting and more. Join RAS garden volunteers, parents, students and staff on 26th of February to plant 17 new trees that have been donated to the school by The Forest of Avon Trust. We will also be planting a tree that has been donated to Ralph Allen School by BANES Council as part of the Queen's Canopy which is being planted across the UK to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

We will be meeting 10.30 - 1pm and will need lots of volunteers to make this very special occasion easier. Planting 17 trees is quite a job! However, many hands make light work. It will be a lovely opportunity to meet other people from the Ralph Allen School community.

Parents who are part of the Ralph Allen volunteer garden group who meet to garden the 6th form centre garden on the first Saturday of every month have been making this all possible along with Sarah Thompson, the school business manager. We'd love lots more people from the school community to be involved in making this historic moment an even more memorable and special event. So why not register and come along and join us.

There will be tools available and refreshments for all helpers on the day. No gardening experience is required but you could bring a spade and some gardening gloves if you have them. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Join us for bulb planting tomorrow morning (Saturday) at school from 10am. This has become an annual activity with the volunteer group and Andy Greenhough who always provides the bulbs and joins in with the planting. It's lovely to see the bulbs coming up in the spring and being reminded of planting then together. A great way to meet others from the school community. If you would like to come along and help plant some bulbs join us at 10am on Saturday 2 October. You will need to bring a trowel or spade. We will provide the bulbs and compost.

Hi everyone due to the weather and torrential rain we have decided it's best to cancel todays session as the weather's forecast to be terrible all day. Sorry not to see you all. If there's some amazing weather over the next month we could do an impromptu session, if not see you next month which is November 7th. The plan is to plant more daffodils at the next session. Have a cosy Saturday!

We had a great garden volunteer session today in the Lee 6th form centre garden. Lots of w**ding and bind w**d removal. It was amazingly ok after 6 months with no volunteers. Mainly because of our super mulching sessions b4 lockdown. Thanks to everyone who came and got stuck in, both new faces and regulars. Lovely to see you all. And it was sunny! Lors of apples and crab apples in the orchard, maybe the kitchen can cook apple strudel! We also did a bit of beautifying the student entrance, with marigolds, cosmos, dahlias and more... 😍 come along and join us next time, first Saturday in October 10 am - 12 pm.

Hello!

We hope this first week of orientation days has gone well for you and your Ralph Allen Student. It is such a pleasure to be part of a community who are all coming back after the longest summer holiday ever!... and into the carefully considered environment and support at Ralph Allen School. I am a RAS parent and my son has just started in 6th form. He had his first orientation day yesterday and is full of enthusiasm and pleased to be back which is such a relief!

For a few years, some of us have been supporting the school by doing a bit of gardening in the beautiful Lee 6th Centre garden which is just too much for the premises team to maintain. We have had monthly garden volunteering days for anyone in the Ralph Allen community. The group varies a bit, there are parents (like myself), grandparents, students, governors and staff, even Andy Greenhough the headteacher comes along sometimes with his family to some of our sessions as he's a bit of a keen gardener.

Due to lockdown we have had about 5 months out and will be coming back for the first time this Saturday 5th September to start connecting with the garden again. Our regular session is 10 am - 12 pm on the first Saturday of every month, whether it is term time or holidays. We meet in the Lee 6th Form Center garden. We are really lucky to have a few amazing parent volunteers who are skilled gardeners and support us in knowing what to do when, the rest of us are a great mix, with regulars who come every time and some who drop in now and again when they can make it.

We would love anyone from the community to join us. No gardening skills required, just rock up and get stuck in! It is a great way to connect with other parents and people from the community and also find out more about school life.

With Covid-19 in mind, we have decided that it would be good this time if you:

Bring your own gardening or rubber gloves if you have any (especially good if you are borrowing/using tools on site)

Bring a flask of your favourite drink/tea/coffee as it is easier and safer than us making tea as we would normally do.

Bring your own trowel, fork, secateurs or spade if you have one (but there are some spares on-site)Looking forward to seeing our regulars and also some new faces on Saturday from 10 am.
