Childcare professionals: do you know when you need to update us about something?

Make sure you remember to update us if your contact information changes (such as your address or phone number).

You also need to tell us about certain incidents or events. The EYFS framework sets out that you should inform Ofsted ‘as soon as practicable, and then in any case within 14 days of the change or incident’. This means you should let us know as soon as possible.

We're pleased to announce that a new free Early Years SEND CPD training package is now live.

Funded by the Department for Education and delivered by Dingley’s Promise, the training is designed to support educators working with children aged 0-4 in strengthening inclusive practice and improving outcomes for children with SEND.

If someone asked you "how do children learn to read?", you'd probably have a pretty rich answer. But what about "how do children learn to count?" 🔢

In our latest blog post, Robin Taylor, Associate Head of St Pauls Nursery School and Specialist Leader in Early Mathematics, explores the firm foundations that help children develop a sense of number, and asks whether we give them the same attention we give to phonics.

Robin draws on research from the Centre for Early Mathematics Learning at Loughborough University and the Erikson Early Math Collaborative to look at the foundational concepts young children need: attributes, comparison, pattern and change. He challenges us to think about our "palette of provision" and whether children are meeting these firm foundations in their everyday experiences, not just through number-focused activities.

This is a thought-provoking read for anyone working in early years, whether maths is your favourite area or the one that makes you slightly nervous.
