NorlandUni Official page of Norland University of Early Childhood – offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in early childhood education and care.

TEF Gold for third time in 2023. Five-time winner of Best Small or Specialist Provider at the WUSCAs. Norland University of Early Childhood is the world’s first specialist early years university. Founded in 1892, Norland has been delivering early childhood education and training to students to enable them to become highly knowledgeable and skilled early years professionals. Undergraduates study for a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Education and Care alongside the practical Norland diploma in the beautiful city of Bath leading to the prestigious title of Norland Nanny. Postgraduates study for an MA Early Childhood Education and Care with specialisms in home-based pedagogy and care, sleep hygiene, supporting behaviour and food and nutrition. Norland Agency works exclusively with Norland Nannies, placing them in employment with families all over the world. All nannies and maternity nurses placed through Norland Agency have completed a 12-hour Paediatric First Aid course in the last three years and have an up-to-date DBS check. Norland Agency also checks and verifies all references prior to placing a Norland Nanny in a new position to ensure that the standards expected are upheld. Norland's early childhood consultants partner with schools, nurseries, employers, governments, charities and hospitality brands across the UK and internationally to raise the quality of education and care children receive, particularly in their first three years, a period that shapes future outcomes. Every programme is tailored to the client’s needs. For example, our consultants may work alongside leaders and staff to audit provision, benchmark it against best practice and design training that builds confidence and consistency. Drawing on more than 130 years of early childhood expertise and the standards behind the Norland Quality Mark, this bespoke, evidence-led approach delivers measurable improvements for babies, children, families and the organisations that support them.

Meet the team behind Norland University of Early Childhood! 👋

Before the start of the new academic year, staff came together for an away day to reflect on the successes of the past year, look ahead to the opportunities and ambitions of the year to come, and strengthen connections through team-building activities.

From supporting students and conducting research to delivering professional services and shaping strategic priorities, it was a valuable opportunity to get together ahead of the new year and reflect on the role we all play in supporting students, graduates, research and the wider community.

📚 How do you make a specialist degree even more personalised?

At Norland's Freshers' Fair 2026, students met tutors from our optional modules and discovered more about the subjects they can choose alongside their core studies.

In addition to their core modules, students can select an optional module in each year of study before their placement year, allowing them to deepen their knowledge in specialist areas such as children's literature, STEM, sustainable practice, trauma, entrepreneurship and leadership.

The fair also provided a great opportunity to connect with clubs, societies and peers from across the Norland community, helping students make the most of university life from day one.

It's just one of the ways Norland enables students to shape their own learning journey while preparing for a career in early childhood. 💙

On 25 September 1892, Emily Ward founded Norland. 🤎

Today marks our anniversary and the beginning of our 135th year, a milestone chapter in our history and the year we became Norland University of Early Childhood.

This moment has been made possible by Emily Ward's vision and the generations of Norlanders, students, staff, families and supporters who have shaped Norland over the last 134 years. Together, they have built a community that continues to champion children and transform lives.

As we look ahead to this exciting next chapter, we're proud to celebrate our heritage and the values that continue to unite us.

Hear from students and staff on Founder's Day about what this moment means to them and why it is such a significant milestone for Norland.
