Friday 2nd October 2026

Today at preschool we have done..
- role play picnics, babies and dressing up
- more drawings of our families and our favourite things, as well as using our favourite colours
- built an amazing marble run and raced marbles, predicting which colour would be the winner (dark blue won!)
- puzzles
- singing songs
- exploring the garden and riding the bikes, navigating obstacles and different terrains
- Read Stick Man by Julia Donaldson
- After reading Stick Man, we collected sticks in the garden and used these, as well as string, sticks and pom poms, to make our own stick figures
- magnatiles
- lots of imaginative play in the dollhouse using our wooden block people - each one has one of the children's photos on. This promotes a huge sense of belonging ❤️

Thursday 1st October

At preschool today we have done...
- continued drawing and talking about who lives in our house, who is special to us, and learning about how everyone's family is different
- life cycle puzzles and The Hungry Caterpillar puzzles
- Read Puffin Peter by Petr Horacek - a lovely book about friendship which also highlights similarities between different birds and characteristics that are unique to Paul, Peter's best friend. This links in with our 'all about me' topic by recognising similarities and differences between others
- used a variety of cutters and tools in the playdough, some children chose to make their families out of playdough
- lots of building in the garden, as well as role play cafes in the mud kitchen
- collecting water from about the garden, then using sponges and paintbrushes to mark make around the garden. Lots of children also chose to clean the outdoor equipment with the water and sponges - it looks very shiny!
- creating leaf bugs by carefully threading leaves onto thin twigs
- role play campfires and toasting pretend marshmallows

Wednesday 30th September

Today at preschool we have done...
- used the leaves we collected in the garden to make autumnal leaf collages
- sorted bears by colour (red, yellow, green and blue) and weighed different amounts using the scales
- lots of puzzles - we really like the Hungry Caterpillar puzzles at the moment!
- used different cutters and tools in the playdough
- Read lots of stories - The Leaf Thief and The Lion Inside were firm favourites today!
- put on our wellies and explored the garden, enjoyed digging in the mud, collecting water and finding bugs
- taking turns and helping eachother on the swing, slides and climbing frame
- We drew pictures of and discussed who lives in our house - sharing who is important to us, who lives in our house and learning that everyone's family is unique

Tuesday 29th September

What have we done today?
- scooped, measured, poured and mixed to make a new batch of playdough!
- collected some more leaves in the garden. As well as leaf printing with paints, today we explored what happens to the leaves when they are pressed into playdough and peeled away. The patterns and shapes that were left behind were fantastic!
- lots of singing and stories
- climbing, running, sliding, swinging and simply playing in the garden - enjoying the lovely sunshine!

Monday 28th September

Today at preschool we did:
- puzzles
- building marble runs
- drawing around stencils
- building different sized towers in the garden
- balancing beams
- stories, including The Leaf Thief
- singing
- leaf collecting in the garden, conversations about the change of season and what happens in the autumn. We painted those leaves with watercolours and printed them onto paper, looking at the different colours and patterns. We also spoke about our favourite colours, finding out who has the same and whose is different

The first two weeks of the new term we spent settling in our children, getting to know our new starters and solely following their lead and interests. This strongly supported the children's personal, social and emotional development as they built friendships and strong relationships with key adults.

This week we began our first topic of the year - 'all about me'. We have been looking at our reflections in mirrors, noticing key features that are unique to us, as well as similarities and differences between eachother. The children have created amazing self-portraits which celebrate everything that is unique to them ❤️
