I'm so stoked to announce that I'm now offering bass lessons! I've been teaching guitar for 15 years, but until a couple of years ago I had only played a little bit of bass. A couple of years back someone asked me if I could teach their son bass, and I said, "I suppose I could try"! We started from scratch, going through the Trinity grades, eventually graduating to 5-string material. We're now doing grade 6, and I'm really enjoying it! I’m now finally confident enough to offer my bass teaching services publicly! This is a little bit of “Funky Monks” by RHCP.

Happy New Year guys! (Sorry, it’s a little late for that!) I’m always trying to improve the guitar lesson experience for both my pupils and myself. I’ve never been much one for decorations. My poor pupils have had to stare at the boring blank wall behind me for the last two years that I’ve been teaching online via Zoom! So, I surprised myself the other day by purchasing this lovely print of one of my absolute favourite fingerstyle guitarists of all time, the legendary Nick Drake. (I’ve also hung a miniature toy guitar on the wall, which has confused several pupils into thinking it’s a full sized guitar far away! 🤣)
Other improvements to my set up include a much-improved we**am and a new audio interface (which greatly improves the sound quality!)
Things are finally coming together!

My pupils often ask me why their guitar sounds out of tune when the tuner says it’s perfectly in tune. A great You Tuber called Paul Davids has made a great video explaining why this happens. Check it out!

This is a really informative video on the mystery of Nick Drake’s guitar tone by Josh Turner. This guy takes guitar nerdiness to the next level with some great insights. As someone who has spent many years trying to discover the secrets of Nick’s playing, I can really respect this guy’s dedication. If you like Nick Drake or even if you haven’t heard of him, but appreciate great fingerstyle acoustic guitar you should definitely watch this!
