One more night with the frogs!
Most people have heard of Moses and if you haven't, watch Prince of Egypt!
So in ancient Hebrew texts, because the Pharaoh refuses to set the Israelite slaves free, Egypt is overrun with frogs. In the bedrooms. On the beds. In the ovens. Everywhere.
Moses offers Pharaoh a way out to be rid of the plague: "You choose the time."
Pharaoh says: "Tomorrow."
Tomorrow! Let that sink in.
Not now.
Not tonight.
Tomorrow.
He chose one more night with the frogs.
Richard is 52. He leads 400 people. By every visible measure, he's doing well.
It's 10.40pm and he's on the edge of the bed, answering an email that could have waited. His wife has already turned her light off. She stopped protesting a while ago.
The frogs are in the bedroom.
They're at breakfast. In the car. In the Saturday morning that used to be his.
None of it is a crisis. That's the problem. Nothing is on fire, so nothing gets fixed.
Richard knows. He even has a plan. After this quarter. After the restructure. January, definitely.
Tomorrow.
Pharaoh wasn't short of options. The rescue was available that afternoon. He simply decided he could live with it for one more night.
Most of us do the same. Tomorrow spares us from looking honestly at today. And it feels responsible, because something important is always in the way.
But every night with the frogs makes the pattern a little more normal. Another conversation half-heard. Another season of giving the people who matter most what's left over.
The frogs don't leave because we get used to them. They leave because we decide.
What have you been saying "tomorrow" to?

Why would you tolerate the frogs for one more night?
