Week 4 introducing colour to our new students with a naive Still and Snowy countryside scene.

The style allowed all students to step away from heavy detail in their artworks. They simplified shapes with cool blue tones, some with warming accent hues.

They definitely captured the magic of winter in oil pastels!

Rubbers at the ready!!!

Week 3 and we land in Soot & Shadows!
Using charcoal and chalk we focused on tone, texture and contrast whilst tackling faces and figures.

Capturing the grit and dust from the chimney sweep trade, our students explored the characters and smoky atmosphere. ✍🏼

Inspiration taken from L. S. Lowry, in Week 2 we got our improving students to experiment with soft chalk and charcoal.

Our Working Crowd project celebrates his style with industrial street scenes with simplified figures capturing a frozen time of everyday life. 👥

Beginner students got to grips with this by stripping our project back by studying perspective and learning scaling via gridding.

We took to urban sketching in Week 7.

When on vacation, we like to encourage our students to keep a visual diary. Nothing quite like speed sketching to capture a moment in time. ✍🏼

This helps to loosen up your flow and not be dragged into detail. Perfect for notes for a larger painting project at a later date! 🎨
