Old Kingswoodian Josh makes his GB Rowing Team debut at the 2026 World Rowing Championships! 🚣🏻🇬🇧

A huge congratulations to Josh Knight (Middle House, 2020), who is currently representing GB at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam.

Competing alongside Matthew Haywood in the Men’s Double Sculls, the pair have impressed throughout this week, progressing through the heats and an intense semi-final to qualify for the Final today (August 28th).

The GB duo put on a superb performance to win Semifinal 1, heading into the medal race with the fastest qualifying time across both heats (6:26.53).🔥

They’ll race against Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia and the Czech Republic for the coveted world title.

Good luck for the Final today, we’ll be cheering you on! 🏅

It was with great sadness that the Kingswood community heard of the death of alumni Tim Curry, one of Britain’s most distinctive and celebrated actors. Long before he became known around the world for unforgettable roles such as Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and King Arthur in Spamalot, Curry was honing his talents on the Kingswood stage between 1956 and 1964.

The son of a Methodist Royal Naval Chaplain, Tim first developed his remarkable voice as a boy soprano, winning certificates at the Mid-Somerset Festival and taking an active part in school life. His theatrical debut at Kingswood came at the age of thirteen when he played Tobit in Tobias and the Angel. He went on to appear as the Postmaster in Gogol’s The Government Inspector and the Earl of Pembroke in Shakespeare’s King John, demonstrating an enthusiasm and stage presence that would become his trademark.

His standout performance came in 1964 as Phacides in William Golding’s The Brass Butterfly. The school review praised a performance that “deservedly brought the house down”, hinting at the remarkable future that lay ahead. Reflecting on those years, drama producer John Gardner remembered Tim as “a live wire” with a clear and active personality, always fully committed to every production.

Tim Curry's extraordinary career and enduring legacy remain a source of great pride for the school. With Drama and Theatre Studies remaining as popular today as they did when Tim was at Kingswood, he is remembered with affection and gratitude by generations of the Kingswood community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Thank you to those of you who have already let us know that you will be joining us for our London Drinks & Canapés Reception on Wednesday 29 April at 7pm — we are really looking forward to seeing you there.
For those who are still considering it, there is still plenty of time to sign up. It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable evening at Café du Marché, Charterhouse Square, with drinks, canapés and the chance to catch up with friends and meet other Old Kingswoodians.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Marcus Cornah, a much-valued member of the Kingswood community, has passed away. He attended School as a pupil from 1964 to 1971 and went to Prior's Court in 1989 as Deputy Head. He became Headmaster of the Prep School in 2004.

Marcus will be remembered by many Old Kingswoodians for his unwavering devotion to Kingswood, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time.

His funeral will take place at Centenary Methodist Church, Boston, at 12 noon on Monday 20th April. All who knew him are very welcome to attend.

We will be holding a Memorial Chapel Service for Marcus later this year at Kingswood and we will share details as soon as we can.

Christmas Drinks at the Apex Hotel✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for drinks at the Apex Hotel on Saturday 20th December. With over 150 Old Kingswoodians joining us, it was a brilliant evening and so lovely to see so many familiar faces all in one place!

The room was full of laughter and conversation with plenty of catching up with friends and former teachers from Kingswood. It was wonderful to see so many recent leavers come along to their first Old Kingswoodian event!

Thank you to all who joined us, we really appreciate you being part of the Kingswood community and look forward to seeing you at another event soon!
