Thank you SO much for bringing the joy and moves for the last few terms, for being super organised and for going above and beyond to make sure BUDC classes run smoothly. I love the word PRACTICE

It doesn’t mean to be already good at something, to already be skilled or perfect or without wobbles or imperfection.

Practising is just turning up for yourself and having a go.

The cool part is when students achieve things a bit like this from hours of just having a go!

The most important part of days and events like this isn’t the dance itself or the pretty costumes or the technique of performers.

It’s about the warmth and energy of being together, moving together and celebrating dance together ♥️

This week I have been doing a lot of reflecting and hearing about what movement and dancing means to students 💗

(Dancing has been a part of my life since I was 4 years old. My mum has footage of myself and my younger sister wobberling around the living room in our sparkly dresses)

One of the reasons I started to teach is simply because to me it’s an incredible experience to have a body and to be able to create movement with it.

I wanted to be able to share this joy and help others to realise that having awareness of their body and movement is simply a really cool and unique experience.

When Fleur handed over the maternity pack for the next few months of classes to me (Lilia - Maternity Cover Teacher) what I really noticed was an emphasis on creating a sense of family and community.

She highlighted how BUDC should be a welcoming and friendly place to all.

A place where young people can socialise, belong and feel a part of something special.

We try to do this by creating class rituals, opportunity for dancers to chat and connect, fun games and performance opportunities!
