Well that went well! Congratulations to .a.davies First GB title to add to his outdoor title.
Huge thanks to for some great strength and conditioning support and all the athletes.
11 years of work for Justin to make his first Senior International Championships. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in the international Champs stage.
And great to see Basil Rock with an indoor pb in the same event and athletes with some excellent performances at the National Cross Country.
.a.davies relaxed speed 200’s, flying 90’s, acceleration 60’s. Cos the winter grind is only one part of the story. And the indoor season is not too far away.

Happy Christmas all. Nice little track compilation for the year. Onwards and upwards.

🎄 friends and running break. Fuels my heart and mind every time I return. What to remember in 2024 on the coaching front? Another fun and successful year for the club. Movember fund raising efforts were great to see and medals and pb’s at the British University Champs lending weight to the success of the programme at Bath.
And helping coach the Modern Pentathlon team through an exciting World Cup season and the Olympics was a great experience. With the introduction of OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) it’s a new format for a historic sport.
And then there was the privilege of coaching .a.davies and on a journey to establish themselves in the sport at the highest levels.
Here’s to 2025. The up’s, the down’s and everything between. Success is in the journey. The result… well that’s because you invested in the journey. Enjoy.
Day 2 of in their 24 hour relay. Yep it’s still raining and windy but on they go. and an awesome job organising.
Too many individuals to mention but a word has to be said on the incredible feat of Jonny Brook. 100k by the end of the challenge. A 3 hour sleep in the University library in the early hours but turning on the afterburners in the morning.
Head to the account for donating details.
Have a thought for who started a run for and men’s mental health at 12 noon Friday and have planned a continuous relay for the subsequent 24hrs. You can donate here

So yesterday it was snowing. And yesterday the GB Modern Pentathlete squad had a Laser Run threshold set. Smiles all round, and some very cold shooting hands!
Then today it was a frosty evening, fairly short, winding up the pace for Liverpool and the Euro XC Trials.
3x(1k(90s)3x400(60s)) at 5k pace for the k’s and step down to 3k pace for the 400’s.
Love a good step down and some great running by .a.davies .ingram and a whole lot more.
And thanks to co-coach showing expertise in keeping warm and some great words of coaching wisdom.
.a.davies and the crew climbing some hills.
What’s a hill good for? Well it depends on how long, and what pace you’re going to go up it. Tonight’s was either 6x20s (jog down) 6x30s (jog down) and 20 minutes of tempo or 8x1min (jog down) with the 20min tempo. All wrapped up with a good warm up and cool down for close on 14k for some.
The shorter session was for the 800m types looking for a bit of stroke volume development, the 20’s (rapid change in heart rate), a rise in lactate from the 30’s and some recycling of that with the tempo. For the longer distance types it was just a bit of central stimulation and recycling. And all developing a bit of extra strength endurance with the push off required.
Could have done more, could have done less but in the context of where they are it seemed about right to me and the group.

A weekend in the Lakes and exploring the inside of clouds. Flat grey skies but some great autumnal colours and a half marathon from the very lovely Borrowdale Hotel taking in Eagle Crag and Lining Crag and some peaty bogs. Christmas comes early in the Lakes.
Coach on holiday.

promoting Breast Cancer Awareness day looking good in pink.
A tasty 7x1200 or 6x(800/200) was on the menu.

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. 8th in UK, top in the South West.
Great City, great lifestyle, great University and athletics programme.

It’s been awesome being part of the team, coaching these athletes towards their dreams. A real privilege and an education. Being bent double, shaking, after ‘pacing’ a tempo session while these athletes casually shoot a perfect 5 from 5 puts ‘pure’ run training in perspective. And knowing they can fence, shoot and ride to an unimaginable level as well…. Total respect.
.bryson and not forgetting and
They head to Paris very soon with the work done and the excitement of the greatest sporting event ahead of them.
Coaching sometimes opens doors you never imagined even being there.
Thanks for the opportunity and thanks to the whole team behind the team.
