It's World Teachers' Day! 🧑‍🏫

Today we are celebrating our teachers. This year's theme is "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures", marking six decades since the adoption of the landmark 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

This year's theme highlights the pressures teachers face such as digital transitions, compensation, and workload.

Today, we are shining a light on all the work teachers do for our students - not just teaching lessons, but all the bits in-between. We followed Peter and Paul for a day to see what the life of a teacher is really like... swipe to see what they get up to!

Next week is our UCAS event! 🎓

On Tuesday, we will have over 20 different universities in the Lower Concourse for you to come and chat to. We will also have the following talks taking place in the Lecture Theatre:
🕘 9:30am: Thinking about University and Choosing a Course - from the University of Brighton
🕛 12.15pm: Transition to University and Support Available - from Southampton Solent University
🕐 1.30pm: Student Finance Talk - form the University of Portsmouth

On Wednesday, the University of Wi******er will be giving a Personal Statement advice talk in the Lecture Theatre at 9.30am, and will have a Personal statement drop-in session 2:00pm - 4:00pm in A011/A012.

The following week on Tuesday 13th Oct, we will be running a UCAS application clinic in G207 from 9:00am - 12:30pm.

🎙️ BCoT on the Airwaves!

Our Head of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, Scott Hayden, was recently interviewed on the radio about how we’re leading the way in integrating AI ethically and intentionally across our college community

Rather than banning these tools, we're issuing our students an "AI driver's license" in their first week to help them learn safe and responsible usage. In the clip, Scott discusses how we're supporting staff and students, shifting toward authentic assessments (like podcasts, vlogs, and process blogs), and using AI to personalise learning around individual interests to genuinely deepen engagement.
