Great person and awesome holiday - I can testify to that!
Meet the boss -Jason Treeby - coastal treats, good food and a love of Dartmoor ☀️
Meet Jason, Managing Director of Devon Holidays and CEO of Reliance Retreats Limited.
When he’s spending time in Devon, his favourite moments include family adventures, walking the dog, discovering local history—and finding somewhere lovely to eat along the way.
Planning a stay with us at Finlake Resort & Spa? Here’s a little inspiration from the boss himself.
🌊 Teignmouth walks—with an orange sorbet
For Jason, Teignmouth is a firm favourite: taking the dog for a run on the beach, then strolling along the seafront with an orange sorbet from Cherry on the Top. With Yarde Farm ice cream also part of the appeal, a seaside treat is firmly on the itinerary!
Bringing your dog? Check the seasonal restrictions for your chosen stretch of beach before visiting.
☕ Breakfast and coffee at The Hub, Finlake
Jason’s café choice is closer to home: The Hub at Finlake.
He rates the breakfasts for setting you up for the day and especially appreciates the cheerful staff. It’s also a favourite for snacks and coffee meetings—as the Devon Holidays team will probably recognise!
Another bonus he enjoys is food delivered to the lodge. Ask The Hub about current delivery availability during your stay.
🍽️ Team socials and a pub worth travelling for
The Claycutter’s Arms in Chudleigh Knighton is Jason’s go-to for team socials when he’s down in Devon. He’s also taken lodge owners there and says the food never lets them down.
A little further afield, The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford earns a special mention. Jason particularly recommends the steaks and loves its traditional pub atmosphere - a lovely addition to a day exploring that side of Dartmoor.
🥾 Family adventures at Haytor
Dartmoor is a favourite for the whole family, especially Haytor Rocks and the quarry pond walk.
For Jason, part of the fascination is seeing history quite literally marked into the landscape. The old granite tramway adds another layer to the walk: a reminder of the people who worked here long before today’s visitors arrived.
📍 Villages, castles and a connection to the past
Widecombe-in-the-Moor is another favourite for its village charm. Further across the moor, Jason enjoys exploring around Lydford and visiting the old castle, with a meal at The Dartmoor Inn rounding off the outing.
Dartmoor’s ancient stone circles and burial sites also capture his imagination. There’s something special about standing among those traces of earlier lives and wondering about the people who came before us.
And on a scenic drive back towards Finlake? A stop at Postbridge for the obligatory photographs is hard to resist.
Stay with us and discover your own Devon favourites.
From a breakfast at Finlake to a day of moorland adventures, make your next break one to remember—then return to your lodge and unwind.
