✨ ONE OF THOSE VERY SPECIAL TEACHER MOMENTS… ✨

There are moments as a teacher when you stop, look at where a former student is now and think… wow.

Seeing Shiv Deepak Rabheru’s name up on the Bird College sign as Artistic Director is definitely one of those moments. ❤️

I’ve known Shiv since he was a young student at Meraki, and even then he had an incredible creative mind. Never afraid to think differently, look outside the box, explore new ideas and continually push himself forward.

He went on to have an amazing career, but perhaps one of his most important roles now lies ahead — helping to inspire, nurture and shape the next generation of our industry.

What a responsibility, but what an incredible privilege.

Knowing Shiv, he will take it on with the same creativity, passion, determination, care and drive that have taken him through his own journey. He now has the opportunity to encourage young performers to discover who they are, challenge them to reach further and prepare them for an industry that never stops evolving.

Over the years, Shiv and I have continued to catch up for our chats, talking about his journey, the industry and what comes next. To now see someone who started his journey with us quite literally have his name on the wall at Bird College is a very proud and slightly surreal moment.

From a young Meraki student with big ideas to Artistic Director of Bird College — that really is something special.

Shiv, I know you have a huge task ahead, but I also know you’ll embrace it, challenge it and put your own stamp on it.

I cannot wait to see what this next chapter holds for you and all the students whose journeys you’ll now help shape.

✨ ONE OF THOSE VERY SPECIAL TEACHER MOMENTS ✨

There are moments as a teacher when you stop, look at where a former student is now and think… wow.

Seeing Shiv Deepak Rabheru’s name up on the Bird College sign as Artistic Director is definitely one of those moments. ❤️

PARENT POW-WOW ☕️

Parents… what is the completely ridiculous thing you swore you would NEVER do when you had children… that you now do all the time? 😂

“I’ll never shout from downstairs.”
“I’ll never bribe my child.”
“My children won’t have screens at the dinner table.”
“I’ll never say because I said so.”
“My children will definitely eat whatever I cook.”

And then actual parenting happened. 😂

I think most of us had a very clear idea of the parent we were going to be… before we actually became one!

So, confession time…

SUPER PROUD MOMENT!

A huge congratulations to our gorgeous ex-student Chloe O’Neill, who has recently graduated from Italia Conti and has already secured her first professional job in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular!

We absolutely LOVE seeing our students take those first steps into the professional industry. From the young dancer who trained with us at Meraki to now heading out into the professional world — we couldn’t be prouder of you, Chloe!

Go and enjoy every single second of it, work hard, soak it all up and make some amazing memories.

And please keep us updated — we want to hear ALL about it!

At what age do children suddenly stop telling you EVERYTHING? 😂

When they’re little, you get the full running commentary…

Who sat next to them.
Who cried.
Who got told off.
What colour cup they had.
What someone’s mum said at the gate.
And a 14-minute explanation about a ladybird they found outside. 🐞

Then one day…

“What did you do today?”

“Nothing.”

“Who did you play with?”

“Can’t remember.”

“What did you have for lunch?”

“Dunno.”

You’ve apparently sent them off for six hours and they’ve returned with absolutely no recollection of the experience. 😂

So, experienced parents…

Are we giving our children enough opportunities to be rubbish at things?

Bear with us… 😂

As adults, we know that when we try something new, chances are we won’t be very good at it straight away. But sometimes with our children, we’re so desperate to protect their confidence that we forget how valuable it is for them to experience:

“I can’t do this… yet.”

To wobble. Get it wrong. Come last. Forget something. Try again. And eventually have that amazing moment of “I DID IT!”

There’s something pretty special about learning that being bad at something isn’t embarrassing — it’s simply the bit that comes before getting better.
