Linguatastic is taking part in the Rotary Basingstoke Deane shoebox appeal over the next couple of weeks!

If you would like to support us, we are gratefully accepting donations of:
Empty shoeboxes
Small gift items
£2 contributions (towards the shipping abroad costs)

The shoebox appeal kicked off in Festival Place yesterday.

Are you able to fill a shoebox with small gifts for a child in need in Ukraine, Moldova or other Eastern European country.

Two things very close to Linguatastic's heart (hospices and peace) come together today in a concert in Thornden Hall, Eastleigh....

Massed "Come and Sing" performance of The Armed Man, conducted by John Sutton MBE and accompanied by the VfH Sinfonia.
The event is designed for all skill levels—there is no need to prepare beforehand, as singers are taught on the day. All funds raised go toward supporting eight Hampshire hospices

Earlier today we dropped off our cranes at The Basingstoke Art House Gallery (between Costa and the Apple Store in Festival Place). The artist Shachi Jain’s aim was to collect and display 1000 origami cranes as a symbol of peace and collective hope in time for International Day of Peace on Monday 21st September. Do go and have a look at the installation and help reach the goal.

We've been back a week and it's been lovely to see those who were with us last year again and welcome some newcomers.

As some of you will be aware, many of the local schools and colleges are cutting down on their language provision, but we continue to run most of our sessions as we truly believe in the importance of learning other languages. We are though, having to do some extra fundraising. So please, if you have any clothes, hats, belts, bags, shoes, perfume, jewellery you no longer need, do pass them on to us (you can leave your donations under the car port at Lingua Lodge) any time tomorrow for our Happy Schoolbag collection. Thanking you in advance.

It’s shocking to consider, but global armed conflict has reached its highest level since World War II, driven by high-intensity interstate clashes, complex civil wars, and shifting geopolitical power balances.

Of course, as "mere citizens” of a nation, we tend to think that it’s not us, but governments who control the bigger picture. However, grassroots networks also have an incredible amount of power and that’s where we all come into the picture.

At Linguatastic, we believe that learning the languages of our neighbours helps to foster personal friendships and mutual understanding between individuals of different nations. It breaks down barriers, creating social empathy between different cultures.

And indeed, Basingstoke’s annual Inter Faith Peace Walk on Sunday 13th has similar aims (see poster for further information).

Don't worry, we're not going to mention the end of year festivities...this photo is just to wish you a Happy Friendship Day!
Here at Linguatastic, the team are all friends, but of course, we also hope to foster life-long friendships among our little ones and new bonds among the older generations.

Do you speak German and want to meet other German speakers? If so, there is a group of students who have come to Basingstoke from Germany to gain some work experience and would be keen to meet you tomorrow early evening at the Tavern-Gaming Café.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there!
In some of our French primary school groups we’ve been learning about transport and so here’s the card some children made. The expression links the high-speed TGV with the idea of hurtling through life with our dads!
