It's World Environment Day today. Whilst we might not have made a very big deal of this day this time around, we did make a big deal of Earth Day back in April. Here is a sample of some of the work the children did....

It’s Europe Day today, a day to celebrate “peace and unity” in Europe.
On 9 May 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman delivered a historic speech and plan for deeper cooperation in Europe. Known as the Schuman Declaration, it paved the way for a new era of peace, integration and cooperation across the continent – laying the foundations for the European Union as we know it today.

We've seen some fabulous costumes for World Book Day today! This one even has a French link! 🤩 🇫🇷 So, naturally, we love it!

In which museum would you find this painting?
In which city, in which country?
Do you know the name of the painting?
What is it called in French?

Can you get all 5 answers?

La Chandeleur 2026, that's a wrap! Or should that be, a crêpe ! 🥞 We've had a crêpe-tastic week at Linguatastic! Our groups have been creating menus for a crêperie, talking about toppings, even tasting crêpes in clubs!! Quelle chance! These cute little guys were made this morning in our French Preschool 👨‍🍳

Back in December some of our French club children made cards, which we sent to elderly residents of a care home in northern France, to spread a little love at Christmas.
Yesterday, Linguatastic received this lovely card, with thanks for our kind messages and photos showing how they used our cards to help decorate their communal areas.
Community spirit at work! Across borders and age groups 😊 This is what language-learning is all about - breaking down barriers, connecting with people and realising we all share this one world together.

It’s a new year and we would usually be sharing an update on what we have planned for 2026, but unfortunately we have a sad announcement to make. Martin Biermann, husband to Chansopha and father to Fiona, died just before Christmas. It had been a tough Autumn term as right up until his life-limiting diagnosis, Martin, whilst not one of the teaching staff, had been an active member of the Linguatastic team. In September, he had to withdraw from his Deutschklub Assistant duties and Chansopha had ended up becoming his full-time carer, meaning she was also temporarily out of action from Linguatastic activities.

Those who have been connected to Linguatastic for many years will have no doubt at some point encountered Martin. He was for example, at our 40th anniversary, on stage encouraging people to buy raffle tickets and support the excellent cause of Médecins Sans Frontières / MSF. And back in the day, when we had our 811100 number, he’d often be the one answering the phone and would enthusiastically tell people more about our activities. He’d also often be present, carrying a banner or taking photos or getting roped into some job or another at community events such as World Party and Old Basing and Lychpit Carnival. And then there’s all that he did behind the scenes like printing Flashcards, producing calendars, cutting out shapes for our craft activities!

He was a passionate internationalist and very much believed that communication is the key to harmony. He was a strong supporter of the work of Linguatastic, not only what we do teaching children (and adults) languages, but also teaching them to be kind to one another and the planet.

We shall miss him dearly and shall be eternally grateful for his love, support and belief in us.
