Thursday & Friday classes we are going on a Road Trip with lots of different kinds of transport!

I guess my story shows how life can be hard but you never know where it can take you. It also shows my love for Caterpillar Music & how my roles have changed over the years!

At the recent Caterpillar Music conference I won the “High Achiever Award” that was judged by an external panel. The reason was because of what I’ve achieved against the setting of my bad health.

I’ve had an autoimmune condition for 17 years but during lockdown 2020 it got seriously worse. I couldn’t manage more than 10 steps without a walking aid (I used a walker that had a built in seat because I couldn’t bare to stand). I had to stop teaching Caterpillar Music.

For 3 years my life was very small, just moving between my bed & the sofa whilst also trying to be a good Mum. During this time I did the admin & social media for CM Basingstoke. I loved that this made me still part of the team.

In 2023 my consultant wanted to run some more tests which ended up showing a slightly different (but more serious) condition. This made me eligible for more serious medication. With a combination of medication, physio & willpower I started walking. My girls used to come with me whilst I just walked a little lap around my house. Eventually I managed more laps & longer walks which led to hiking & walking medals! I was so happy to get back teaching & then in a happy life coincidence I was able to buy the Basingstoke franchise.

Since then I have bought our classes to 5 nursery settings & 3 new care homes. We’ve also run sessions for local charities.

My health condition is chronic, it’s not going away and sometimes I can have flare ups. My medication suppresses my immune system so I have to be careful to not catch bugs which are more likely to lead to infections. Not easy when working with children!

The fact I’ve achieved all this whilst managing my health is something I’m very proud of. It was wonderful to be recognised for that.
