The glamorous life of a mum and a tutor. I love that I can now plan on the go with my Chromebook and hot spotting to my phone. I just need a full sized, portable printer and I'll be sorted!
Tutoring for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 in Reading, Writing, SPaG, Maths and Science.
I am also an Independent Usborne Book organiser which allows me to get high quality reading resources to support your child.

These are such useful skills that will be used for many years after.
Knowing how 'quickly' you can work, means you are able to plan your time better, organise your work priorities and complete tasks more efficiently.
Knowing what you do and do not know means you are able to go and find the answers. As a child, this is very challenging but that's my job - to model how to do this successfully.

EDITING WRITING
This can be quite daunting for anyone but especially children. The idea of not being 'right' can cause writers block before they even begin. These ideas are great ways to support the editing.
Checklists are great; we use them for everything! It can also be quite intimidating when the list appears endless. Less will ensure that the editing being completed is meaningful, thorough and achievable giving the child a huge sense of pride in what they have accomplished.
In terms of resources, this could be dictionaries, thesauruses, word mats, grammar cue cards, peers and yourself. Each one has its place in supporting the process to make it a success.
One tip I didn't list was just to let them write. Don't let them worry about editing; that is a step for later.

Not much more I can add to this. The last two years has been challenging for everyone but, for children of all ages, it has been something none of us have any experience of. I am in awe of them, their parents and teachers! As a tutor, my job is to support child, which in turn supports their teacher, as I am able to consolidate their teaching and support any challenges to allow the child to progress.

FRACTION WALLS
Such a fantastic resource to aid learning of fractions. A fraction wall can show:
- equivalent fractions
- what a fractions is
- how they can be converted to find the same denominator before adding or subtracting
- how to simplify
- showing what is meant by an inverted fraction and how it is more than a whole
There may actually be more but I have run out of brain power tonight. If you can think of anymore, please add them in the comments section.

As the half term begins, what will your children be doing? Are they taking the time to relax and recover from their first term back? Are they on an adventure exploring new places or places that make them happy? Are they exploring their passions in sport, the arts, gaming? Are they trying to get ahead and taking ownership of their own learning? What ever your child chooses to do (or that you encourage), it is all an important part of their development as a learner and as a person. Having a tutor can help give children ownership over their own learning, picking up extra support, challenges and consolidating knowledge along side your child's chosen pastime.

Any guesses as to what I'm working on tomorrow with a student?
I have missed making resources and exploring new and engaging ways to teach and consolidate learning. Can't wait to show you what I found for this maths topic.
Come back tomorrow to learn more.

So, I've been very quiet on here as I have been enjoying my little ones. Big one is off to nursery next week 😠and little one is 11 months old today! All going very quickly.
As the new term has just begun, everything is still so uncertain but SATs are back. I find this unfair for children who have not had a full school year since they were year 3! I'll be posting any tips and tricks I come across as well as showing my go to resources I still have availability for anyone who wants a chat about how I can help.

Such a fab idea to get children writing for a purpose.
A great way to get writing over the holidays. I wanted a fun way for my own children to continue writing at home. We went to The Range and stocked up on stickers, notebooks, coloured pencils and foam letters. I made it clear that this was their journals and they could record what they liked and they decided how often. I've then taken photos of places when we've out and we've stuck them in. 🥰 Their memories of summer holidays 2021 in their own words. X

I hate to say it but this is one of the main reasons why people instruct tutors. The pressure that children are put under when it comes to exams is incredible! I would never have survived with some of the pressure they are under these days. Yes, I would help your child to be as prepared as possible for their exams but I would also work with them to be as relaxed and confident as possible. I remember the stress I put myself under and hate to see others experiencing that. Learning should be enjoyable; exams are a part of our learning culture so I will endeavor to limit the stress.
