Another staff profile!

I joined KIDS in June 2015 originally as bank staff, however after working with them for several months and taking on a keen interest in learning more about the children I took on a new role as assistant practitioner.

I was then promoted to the role of practitioner with a lead in education and play as I gained my level 5 NVQ in leadership and management of early year’s settings, after having initially gained my level 3 NVQ in childcare.

Through this role I have built on my knowledge of special educational needs and can implement a variety of strategies to support those within our setting.

Training I have had during my time at KIDS:
• First aid
• Makaton
• Lego Therapy

Our team inset days are always interesting, the management go to great lengths to try and make them fun for us too! We have had themed training days to build on our knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stages such as an I’m a Celebrity themed day, a Great British Bake Off themed training day and an Apprentice themed one too! These are great team building opportunities and we learn new things along the way, or refresh our memory which is beneficial when you’ve been here a long time!

I really enjoy getting to set up sensory play trays usually based on a theme as this is something that all children can access and be a part of, as well as working on themes for Plods (our planning system). It’s a great opportunity to be as creative as you want, which is an important skill to have in order to engage the children in play.

Working at KIDS is a fantastic opportunity to build on your knowledge of special educational needs as well as learn how to plan engaging EYFS based learning opportunities. You will get to join in with a variety of activities from messy play to hide and seek in the garden to tea parties in the role play area- you can’t say the same for many other jobs!

The best part about this job is that every day is a different day and that you get to see so many children achieve new things during their time here and share in the joy of showing their parents/carers- the children are looking for adults who can teach them but who are also willing to have fun with them!

Here's a quick Staff Profile of Maddie - who started as an Assistant Practitioner and has qualified and become a Practitioner!

Hello! I’m Maddie and I joined KIDS in 2019 as an Assistant Practitioner. Since working at KIDS I have completed my NVQ level 3 in childcare and I am now an Early Years Practitioner, mainly working within the pre-school room.

Since working with KIDS I have been given the opportunity to complete a wide variety of training courses which I have found very beneficial for both my personal and professional growth and have enjoyed learning and developing my knowledge. Training I have completed include-
-NVQ level 3 in child care
-Lego therapy
-EYFS training
-EY ELSA
-First Aid and training In Anaphylaxis

I have found that during our inset days we have been given many good opportunities to develop our knowledge and understanding which we can apply to our role. These are always fun and engaging and all staff enjoy these.

Every day working within the setting presents new and fun opportunities for all staff members including working within the rooms with the children, working with a supportive and helpful team and taking part in interesting training courses. My favourite thing to do day to day is to take the children into the garden. This is a great place where they can experience both free play and structured activities and all of the children enjoy this time of day. I specifically enjoy this time as it is nice to see how the children explore all the different environments.

Day to day you can expect to take part in caring and interacting with the children, helping and encouraging them to learn and develop in all areas of the EYFS, maintain a safe and engaging environment for everyone within the setting and have fun whilst developing within your career.
