Changemaker By Effie

As the month crawls to an end I can’t help doing the usual - reflecting. What hit me first was the fact that I’ve had people who I thought I could ‘trust’ disappoint me.

Each one, I had my internal scream! The smack down at the hubby (because he said I could) and then I looked in the mirror. Each time, I asked myself, “who are you and how will you respond”?

The woman in the mirror responded;
You’re kind.
You’re bold.
You’re insightful.
You’re responsible.
You’re full of grace.

And on Sunday when my pastor preached these words stuck - ‘be bold and courageous’!

It sunk right into my soul.
Am I hurt? Yes.
Will I get over it? Of course.
Will it happen again? Damn right it will.

But here’s what I’ve embraced. Leadership is also tested in moments of disappointment. When people let you down, whether through broken trust, unmet expectations, or lack of integrity, you have a choice: let it consume you or rise above it.

True leadership means facing disappointment head-on, not with bitterness, but with clarity, resilience, and a commitment to your values. It’s about learning the lesson, setting boundaries, and moving forward with a spoonful more wisdom.

This, I can accept.
This, I can be bold and courageous with.
Keep leading and making change.

I want to thank you for being part of Changemaker by Effie. This Christmas, I hope you find time to reflect, recharge, and celebrate the impact you’ve made, however big or small. Wishing you and your loved ones peace, joy, and hope this festive season.

One of the things I’m great at is making people feel loved, that they matter and THEY’RE DOING GREAT! Shouting about the achievements of women comes easily and I simply LOVE doing it.

Taking action on building equity and ensuring they have a level playing field to achieve can be quite difficult but taking the first step is the key to any success. Some of my little steps include fundraising for menstrual hygiene for girls, mentoring and becoming a White Ribbon Ambassador. My greatest pride so far is setting up DuaPa foundation in 2020, to see women upscale, up skill and for young people especially girls to be equipped to enter the world of STEAM! Through our Blankson ICT Centre in Kormantse it’s happening and I’m very proud of it.

On 2nd February 2024, I got the email that says congratulations… from UN Women UK. I have no doubt, that as a delegate, I will be invigorated to know what other women are doing out there and how to take my little steps to the next level. You’ll surely hear about the exploits of some of the greats I will encounter online for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration.
