🌿 Muddy learning in our Mud Kitchen! 🪣
Our mud kitchen provides endless opportunities for learning through play. Today, the Preschool 2 children enjoyed getting stuck in with mark-making, mixing, pouring, digging and investigating alongside Helen and Beth.
As they lifted, carried, stirred and dug, the children were developing their physical skills, coordination and strength. Filling and emptying containers, measuring, counting and comparing encouraged early mathematical thinking, introducing concepts such as volume, weight, capacity and quantity.
The children also had lots of opportunities to develop their Personal, Social and Emotional Development as they shared tools and ideas, made decisions, took turns and worked together. Their conversations and imaginative play supported Communication and Language, as they talked about what they were doing, shared their ideas and explored new vocabulary given by the adults.
Mixing mud with natural materials allowed the children to explore Understanding the World, observing changes in materials, experimenting with cause and effect, and developing their natural curiosity about the world around them.
And, of course, there was plenty of creativity and Expressive Arts and Design as the children enjoyed making marks and creating their own muddy masterpieces! The children and adults even had a muddy manicure and spa role play! 🎨🌱
The learning opportunities in our mud kitchen really are endless! 💚
