✨ A new term, and a little change for me… ✨

If you know me, you’ll know I’m a bit old school when it comes to paperwork! 😂 There’s something about having it all in my filing cabinet that gives me reassurance. However, this term I’ve taken the plunge and started using NurtureBooks and I have to say, I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen so far. ❤️

Nurture Books was designed and created by Claire Lowe a childminder herself, with the help of her husband and I really love that it has been developed by people who actually understand childminding and what we need from a system like this.

Already, I can see how it is enhancing the way I record my observations. It gives me a clear visual picture of where a child is within their learning and development and how their learning links with the Curriculum for Wales and the ECPLC. I also LOVE that I can add photographs to observations. 📸 And for someone who still loves a paper file, I can print those observations too 🙌 So I can still have that physical record in my files if I want or need it. That little feature has definitely helped my traditional side feel much happier about embracing technology 😂

Another big plus for me is that Nurture Books is compatible with Making Tax Digital, meaning that when the time comes for me to move over to that, I’ll already have software in place that can support me with it.

The idea that my policies, newsletters, mandatory training certificates and other important information can all be uploaded and shared means that the information I currently have safely tucked away in my filing cabinet can become much more accessible to the families I work with. And ultimately, that can only help strengthen the relationship between myself and parents ❤️

I’m definitely not 100% set up yet and I’m still learning and finding my way around it, but from what I’ve seen so far, particularly through the observations I’m already compiling and how easy I’m finding the system to use, I genuinely cannot wait to get my parents onto the portal.

For someone who has always been very firmly in the “I like my paperwork in a folder!” camp, that’s saying something! Sometimes even an old traditionalist has to embrace a little bit of technology! 🤣

A blustery walk along Penarth Pier this morning with our friends 🦋

We admired the painted pebbles along the front, stopped for coffee ☕️ and welsh cakes 😋 and wondered if the fisherman would catch anything 🎣

Well you can imagine the excitement when the rod bells started to jingle and the rod then started to bend 😲 Lots of "what is it" whilst waiting patiently to see what would come out of the water 😬 A big net was lowered to help protect the catch and we weren't disappointed when we finally saw what it was. After they weighed it we discovered it was a 11ib Conger Eel 🙌 The Pops were mesmerised ✨️

Lots of talk of releasing it to be kind as we watched it being lowered back into the sea 🌊 What an incredible learning opportunity 😀

I've been reflecting a lot lately on the benefits the SchemaPlay Accreditation has had on me and my setting. I was totally engrossed in the training from the minute I met Lynnette Schemaplay 😁 One of those people who truly loves what she does and has stacks of knowledge and life experience 🥰

One of the things we spoke about, which I absolutely loved, was... Object Permanence 🙌 These types of toys help babies learn that people and things are still there, even when they can't see them. This can be especially comforting when parents leave and come back ❤️

Object Permanence resources can also support schemas such as:
🔹 Containing – hiding things in containers
🔹 Trajectory – dropping things and watching them move
🔹 Enclosing – exploring hidden spaces
🔹 Transporting – carrying things around

These simple activities help build memory, problem solving, anticipation, spatial awareness and a sense of security 🌟

I've been settling a new Pop into my setting over the last month and he has transitioned to childcare so well. He's happy, content and now even waves goodbye to Dad at drop off 😊

Having these skills in my learning toolkit has helped make this transition go so smoothly 👌Training is hugely important in this profession and there is always something new to learn ❤️

🎒 Nursery pick up
🥪 Lunchtime catch up
🛌 Nap time

We were lucky to get an invite to our friends Forest Wanderers this morning where the Pops enjoyed new surroundings and resources, they met new friends and showed off their manners

Nursery pick up gave us an opportunity to practice our road safety skills and to catch up with a mindee to see how her first day went 🥰

The Pops couldn't wait for lunch 😋 and are now all cwtched up ready for a nap after a busy morning playing 😍

A quiet day with only 2 Pops 💕 We headed to The Knap and met our friends from Butterflies Childcare 🦋 We both proudly wore our LittleLink ID and a few people stopped us to admire the little ones playing as we were clearly recognised as working 🙌

We watched the remote control boats on the lake, danced on 'the stage' 💃 picked blackberries, said "Bore Da" to the swans 🦢 We made time to sit, observe and wonder 🌊 🪨 Friendships big and small, cherishing the small moments 🥰

Today we spent the day at Cosmeston Country Park and Lakes with our friends from Butterflies Childcare
A place we all love to return to, time and time again 💚

Nature has such a beautiful way of teaching us life lessons. Today, children of mixed ages showed kindness, patience and consideration towards one another. We spent lots of time in the woods building tree houses, with each child following their own agenda, exploring their schematic urges and becoming completely absorbed in their surroundings with no need to rush. It truly was the perfect hygge day. 🥰

We celebrated one of the Pop's birthdays with cake after lunch and we also said a special goodbye to one of the Butterflies as he moves on to his next stage at big school. 🦋

A day full of connection, creativity, independence, new skills and beautiful memories. The kind of day the children will treasure with so many opportunities to simply enjoy everything that nature has to offer. 🌿 fans LittleLink ID Coram PACEY Cymru Vale Family Compass

You know it's been a good day when the Pops don't want to go home at the end of the day 🙌

When parents have to bribe their children to leave 🤣

When "Are you going home or living here from now" is met with "Yes I'll stay here please" 🤔

No better feeling than knowing my Pops feel at home and cared for and that both parents and children are happy with the care I provide👌

Today we are at our local Amelia Trust Farm, where we’re lucky enough to have an annual pass. 💚🐄 Supporting our local community is something that’s really important to us and it’s wonderful to see just how many opportunities it provides for the children.

Over time, the Pops have become so familiar and comfortable with their surroundings here and it’s lovely to see them caring for one another as well as the animals. 🥰

This morning was all about meeting and greeting the reptiles! 🐍🦎 The Pops were incredibly brave and had the chance to hold Basil the snake, Pogo the bearded dragon, and some of the other amazing animals.
Some of the Pops were understandably a little apprehensive, but this is where our mixed age group really shines. The older Pops supported and encouraged the younger ones, while sometimes it was the youngest who had absolutely no fear and ended up reassuring the older ones! 😂❤️

There was so much encouragement, kindness and support between them all. Watching them work together, build each other’s confidence and overcome little challenges as a team is just wonderful.

Team Poppins — one very proud childminder today! 💕🌟

This morning the Pops wanted to go to 'The Green Park' 💚 I queried which Park this was and why they call it that and of course the answer was because the equipment is green, "Silly Sarah" 🫣

Giving Children choices and being heard is an important part of Poppins Daycare. In a world where children often feel they are penned in, being able to have some say in where we go and what we do is important. With only three Pops attending today, the quieter day gave them the opportunity to choose a park that may not be as accessible or suitable for our very youngest Pops .

They were able to enjoy the bigger equipment, embrace some risky play, develop their confidence and independence and experience the freedom of having genuine ownership over their choices. It was a lovely reminder of the importance of giving children a voice and allowing them to shape their own experiences 🙌
