A little update on my BCC… ❤️
A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed by a dermatologist with BCCs on my face and chest he recommended excision to face but I would be faced with a long scar and possibly a deformed face. I have a great deal of respect for my dermatologist, but because of the location of the BCC on my face, I felt that a plastic surgeon would be the best person to remove it.
So I decided to get in touch with plastic surgeon Mr Dean Boyce. I know his work and completely trust him, and I knew that if surgery was necessary, I wanted someone who understood not only how to remove the lesion, but also how to restore and preserve the appearance of my face.
Mr Boyce took a more cautious approach and requested a biopsy before deciding on the most appropriate treatment.
And now I have my results…
Yes, it is a BCC — but thankfully, it isn’t as deep as initially thought and finding this provided my with a choice of treatment . 🙏🏼
Mr Boyce has given me two options:
➡️ Excision — surgically removing the BCC and suturing the area, which would inevitably result in more scarring.
➡️ Laser treatment — because the BCC isn’t as deep as originally thought, this is a considerably less invasive option and will hopefully result in less scarring.
After discussing the options, I’ve decided to go ahead with the laser treatment. I’m now just waiting for an appointment date.
I honestly cannot tell you how relieved I am that I don’t need to have a large area of my face cut out.
I’m incredibly grateful to Mr Boyce for taking such a cautious approach and not simply removing it without first establishing exactly what we were dealing with.
So, for now, I’m feeling very relieved. ❤️
This experience has really reinforced something I’ve always believed professionally too — sometimes the safest and most appropriate approach is to slow down, investigate properly and make an informed decision rather than rushing into treatment.
I’ll keep you updated when I have a date and let you know how it goes. ❤️
