πŸ“š Is your child starting Year 11 this September?

The jump into Year 11 doesn't mean students need to spend the rest of their summer revising for hours.

A little preparation can make returning to school much easier.

Encourage them to:

βœ” Look back at topics they found difficult in Year 10
βœ” Organise their English Literature texts and notes
βœ” Identify one area of English they would like to improve
βœ” Start the year with a realistic academic goal

Once term begins, GCSE workloads can increase quickly. Identifying weaker areas early gives students time to work on them before mocks and final examinations become the focus.

I provide personalised online tuition in GCSE English Language and Literature, including exam technique, analysis, essay writing and structured revision.

πŸ“š Word of the Day: RESILIENT

To be resilient means being able to recover and keep going when something is difficult or doesn't go as planned.

Example:
Despite finding the first few lessons difficult, the student remained resilient and continued to improve.

Building a stronger vocabulary helps students express their ideas more precisely in both creative and analytical writing.

πŸ’ Challenge: Can you use resilient in your own sentence?

Parents β€” try asking your child at dinner tonight! 😊

πŸŽ‰ Fantastic GCSE Results Day news!

I’m delighted to share that one of my students has achieved A* in both English Language and English Literature.

A fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and preparation they have put into their studies. It has been a pleasure supporting them with their English studies.

A huge congratulations β€” very well deserved! πŸŽ“πŸ‘

Thank you to the parent for giving me permission to share the results anonymously.

If your child is preparing for GCSE English and would benefit from personalised support, I am currently finalising my September timetable.

πŸŽ“ GCSE Results Day 2026

Today is a big day for thousands of students and their families.

If your child achieved the grades they were hoping for, congratulations! πŸŽ‰

But if a result hasn't gone to plan, try not to panic. A disappointing grade doesn't mean they've run out of options.

Our latest blog explains what students and parents can do next, including speaking to their school or college, considering a review of marking, looking at resit options and deciding on the best next step.

GCSE Results Day is tomorrow. πŸŽ“
For students, there may be excitement, nerves and plenty of β€œwhat ifs?” tonight.
For parents, one of the most helpful things you can do tomorrow is give your child time to process their results.

Celebrate what has gone well. If a grade is lower than expected, stay calm and look at the available options before making any decisions.
And if English is an area where your child needs additional support β€” whether they're considering their next steps or preparing to enter Year 11 β€” we can discuss where they are now and what support may help them move forward.

GCSE Results Day is this Thursday. πŸ“š
For many students and parents, the next couple of days can feel like a long wait.
Whatever the results show, take time to look at them properly before deciding what happens next. Celebrate what has gone well, identify any areas that need further support and remember that an unexpected grade does not mean there are no options.

For students moving into Year 11, Results Day is also a reminder that the new GCSE year is just around the corner. Starting September with a clear understanding of strengths and weaker areas can make preparation for mocks and final examinations much more manageable.
I provide personalised online tuition in GCSE English Language and Literature, including exam technique, analysis, essay writing and structured preparation.

🧠 Psychology Insight

Did you know that learning can physically change the brain?

Biopsychology explores how the brain, nervous system and biology influence behaviour.

One fascinating idea is that new experiences can strengthen connections between neurons, helping us learn and remember information more effectively.

Psychology combines science and human behaviour, making it a fascinating subject for students interested in understanding how the mind works.

πŸ‚ September is getting closer.

A new academic year can be exciting, but it can also bring greater expectations, heavier workloads and, for GCSE students, increasing exam pressure.

Support doesn't have to begin when a student is already struggling.

Starting earlier can give them time to strengthen weaker areas, develop effective study habits and build confidence as the new term gets underway.

Online tuition is available in GCSE English, Psychology and 11+ preparation, with personalised support based on each student's needs.
