Climbing a tree might feel like just a bit of fun, but it actually uses a surprising mix of physical and mental skills and comes with some solid benefits too.
It builds grip strength, upper and lower body strength, balance, coordination, and core stability. You also use flexibility, agility, and endurance as you move and hold positions. On top of that, it takes spatial awareness, problem-solving, planning your route, focus, patience, and encourages exploration whilst building good risk awareness to climb safely.
Plus, itβs a great way to get outside, reduce stress, boost confidence, and reconnect with a sense of adventure. Sometimes the simplest activities turn out to be the best for both body and mind.

This week at Outdoor Explorers Home Ed we had a fantastic outdoor session full of creativity, teamwork and active play! πΏ
The children had great fun designing and building their own catapults using loose parts. They developed problem-solving skills, creativity and early engineering thinking, while also learning how to safely use tools and practise simple knots to secure their structures. They explored how things work, tested their ideas and adapted their designs through trial and error, building resilience and confidence.
We also used loose parts to create a cosy den for the lambs to shelter and play encouraging teamwork, communication and imaginative play as the children worked together to bring their ideas to life.
A highlight of the day was spending time with the lambs, supporting their understanding of animals and building empathy.
To finish off, everyone enjoyed a game of football, promoting physical development, coordination, cooperation and a great sense of fun followed by hot chocolate and marshmallows on the camp fire π₯
A wonderful day of learning through play, exploration and connection with nature π±β½π

This week at Outdoor Explorers, the children worked together to create an incredible giant marble run using loose parts πΏ
Throughout the activity, they demonstrated fantastic teamwork, sharing ideas and listening to one another as they designed and built their structure. They used problem-solving skills to figure out how to keep the balls moving, adjusting heights, angles, and pathways when things didnβt quite work the first time.
The children also showed creativity, resilience and perseverance when faced with challenges. Their communication skills really shone as they explained their ideas and worked collaboratively to bring their vision to life.
A brilliant hands-on learning experience full of exploration, curiosity, and fun!
We also spent some calm and meaningful time with the lambs and sheep π, helping to build confidence, empathy, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

Another lovely day of Home Ed sessions today. We explored nature by looking closely at the new buds on the trees and talking about spring. We got creative making our own trees, then went hunting for bugs and built little homes we thought the bugs might like ππͺ±.
We also spent time climbing trees, enjoying the outdoors and finished the session with hot chocolate and making popcorn on the camp fire π₯
