👷 What is an Appointed Person?

The Appointed Person is the individual responsible for planning and organising lifting operations on a construction site.

It’s a role that carries significant responsibility. You’ll assess the lifting requirements, identify hazards and risks, select suitable lifting equipment and accessories, and produce a safe system of work — including the lifting plan.

In simple terms, the Appointed Person makes sure that lifting operations are properly planned, adequately supervised and carried out safely.

📋 What does the job involve?

An Appointed Person may be responsible for:

🔹 Planning complex lifting operations
🔹 Carrying out risk assessments
🔹 Selecting appropriate cranes and lifting equipment
🔹 Determining lifting capacities and requirements
🔹 Selecting suitable lifting accessories
🔹 Producing detailed lifting plans
🔹 Identifying hazards and implementing control measures
🔹 Working with crane operators, slingers/signallers and site management
🔹 Ensuring lifting operations comply with relevant legislation and industry guidance
