🏑🏀🎯 **OWBA Sport – Be Part of Something Special!**

The new school year is here, and so is one of our favourite West Buckland traditions! 💙

On **Friday 4 September**, the West Buckland School vs OWBA sporting competition returns with:

🏑 Ladies’ Hockey
🏀 Men’s Basketball
🎯 Mixed Shooting

And in the Spring Term, we’ll be back with **Netball, Men’s Hockey and Basketball**.

These events are about much more than the competition. They’re a chance for OWBs to return to school, reconnect with old friends and teammates, catch up with the West Buckland community and, of course, show the current students that we’ve still got it! 😉

Whether you’re playing or cheering from the sidelines, we’d love to see you there.

Please join us in the 150 Theatre this Thursday evening for an evening of cabaret. It promises to be a really fabulous evening, featuring fresh-faced new talent from Year 7 making their debut, through to seasoned performers in Year 13.

The programme is wonderfully varied, with something for everyone: from golden-age classics like Kiss Me, Kate, to contemporary musicals such as Beetlejuice, alongside many beloved favourites. Highlights include songs from Fame, Les Misérables, Wicked, Miss Saigon, The Little Mermaid, Shrek, Beauty and the Beast and Mamma Mia!

As usual, there will be a live band, charcuterie, and guests are welcome to bring their own drinks, so it should be a really enjoyable evening for the OWBA community.

We’re delighted to invite all alumni, current and former parents and staff to join us for a special Summer Reunion Dinner in the Karslake.
This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet fellow members of our community, and celebrate the shared memories that make our school so special. Whether it’s been one day, a year or many since you last walked through our doors, we would love to welcome you to this fun and relaxed evening. Friday evening saw the annual OWBA summer fixtures take place against the school, and thankfully the weather managed to hold off for a super evening of sport and community.

The cricket match proved to be a thrilling contest, going right down to the last ball, with the OWBA taking the win in a very tight game.

Meanwhile, the tennis matches were played in a fantastic spirit, with the school coming away victorious.

The evening also included a fun, family-friendly game of rounders with Jan Witheridge, our OWBA President.

Thank you to Holroyd Howe for the excelling catering from the new food truck.

A brilliant evening enjoyed by all!

We are so proud of these OWB's who went to Buckingham Palace to receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Such a fantastic achievement. Well done!

Nick Watt (2018-2021F), who is currently studying at the University of Leeds, will be running the Leeds Marathon on 10th May, in aid of the Samson Centre for MS; a small charity based in Guildford, Surrey, providing amazing support for the many people who suffer from the disease. This picture shows Nick with John Hambly OBE, the founder and lifetime president of this incredible charity. Former WBS parent Jeff Lancaster will be walking from Land's End to John O'Groats from 17th May! He is aiming to cover over 1000 miles in around 60 days, camping and carrying his own kit. Jeff is doing this incredible challenge in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity having lost his brother, his wife's cousin and two former WBS parents to an incurable brain cancer, Glioblastoma. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 OWBA Families – thinking about the next step for your child?
We would be delighted to welcome OWBs and their families back to West Buckland School for our Open Day on Monday 4 May 2026.
For OWBs who are beginning to explore nursery, prep, senior school or sixth form options for their children or grandchildren, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience West Buckland as it is today - its values, its community and its forward‑looking approach.
As part of the morning, OWBs are warmly invited to enjoy a meet‑and‑greet coffee with Mrs Helen Lowe, Head of West Buckland School at the end of the formal open day.
