We are a friendly group of people who have many and varied interests in Barnstaple history. The aim of the group is to establish a more detailed and wider understanding of the history of Barnstaple in terms of : people who live or have lived here : events that have taken place : the buildings and landscape both past and present. We meet on the first saturday in every month, excluding January, in B

arnstaple library in the Henry Williamson Room next to the Record Office on the second floor, a lift is available for those who find stairs difficult (except January) 2.00-4.00pm.

Barnstaple Long Bridge.
This image depicts the widening of the bridge.
The photograph was taken around 1962 during the structural expansion of the bridge.
The scene shows heavy construction, including cranes and wooden formwork, alongside a car crossing the remaining open section.
