The SOL Way | Discovering Like-Minded Educators in Thessaloniki

Our school visits in Thessaloniki continued today with a warm welcome at Language School, a private language centre with 30 years of experience and a refreshing approach to language education.

Founded by Roula Kyriakidou in 1996, the school places great emphasis on creativity, communication and experiential learning. Its award-winning Edutainment programme, combining education with drama, play and interactive activities, particularly caught our attention.

We were delighted to introduce SOL and our educational programmes in North Devon, as well as our professional development opportunities for teachers. It was encouraging to discover how much our approaches to language learning have in common.

A big thank you to the Kyriakidou team for their warm hospitality and interest in SOL. We would love to welcome their students and teachers to Devon in the future!

🇬🇷 The SOL Way | SOL in Thessaloniki

This week, SOL is visiting schools in Thessaloniki, introducing our educational programmes to students and teachers and exploring opportunities to extend our activities to Greece.

Today, we had the pleasure of visiting Αριστοτέλειο Κολλέγιο Θεσσαλονίκης / Aristotelio College of Thessaloniki , a prestigious educational institution with a history spanning six decades, recognised for its academic excellence, innovative approach to education and strong international outlook. Its commitment to STEM education, international projects and opportunities for students to engage with the wider world is particularly impressive.

Although SOL has been working with schools across Europe for 35 years, we have yet to welcome students from Greek schools to our programmes in North Devon. It would be a real pleasure to welcome students from Aristotelio College, especially given the school’s excellent reputation and the educational values we share.

A warm thank you to Aristotelio College and Elena Panopoulou for the opportunity to introduce SOL and our programmes. We would be delighted to stay in touch!

THE SOL WAY | A week in Hungary

Our time in Hungary has come to an end after a full few days of school visits, the TESOL-Hungary Conference and, perhaps most importantly, time together as a SOL team.

A big thank you to our partners at TESOL Hungary for welcoming us. SOL was also proud to sponsor Thom Jones as a conference speaker, and it was great to spend time with both Thom and Claudia Molnar, who will be joining us as trainers for our new summer teacher programme in Poland next year.

But this trip was also an important opportunity for us internally. Our coordinators from Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czechia and Slovakia came together with our Managing Director Kirsty Bowie and European Manager Sanja Čonjagić.

SOL works across many countries, so having everyone around the same table is valuable. We compared what we are seeing in our different regions, talked openly about what works and what needs improving, shared plans and ideas – and simply had time to get to know one another better. A strong international network depends on a strong team behind it.

That, too, is The SOL Way: being present, knowing the schools and people we work with, and making sure our own team stays connected across borders.

THE SOL WAY | From one school to another in Budapest

Our days in Hungary have been exactly what we believe SOL should be about – going into schools, meeting teachers and students, and getting a real sense of the communities we hope to work with.

This time, our first stop was Kőbányai Janikovszky Éva Két Tanítási Nyelvű Általános Iskola Bilingual Primary School, where we were invited to join their Harvest Festival. It was a lovely opportunity to experience the school in a very natural setting, before introducing SOL and running workshops with their pupils.

We also visited BMSZC Bláthy Ottó Titusz Informatikai Technikum , meeting students and staff and opening conversations about how their school and SOL might work together in the future.

These visits are an important part of The SOL Way. Rather than simply telling schools who we are, we want to meet them, understand what they do and discover where our ideas and opportunities can genuinely connect.

Thank you to both schools for opening their doors to us – we hope this is just the beginning.

🌍 Sunday night welcomes and a new SOL adventure begins! 💙

Our next group of students will be joining us from Zespół Szkół im. Kryptologów Poznańskich w Luboniu Poland this Sunday, accompanied by Joanna Sokólska. Arriving a little later than usual at 9pm, but that certainly won’t stop the SOL welcome waiting for them! 🏡✨

After settling in with their wonderful host families, they’ll have a busy week ahead, discovering some of the very best of the South West.
Their full-day adventures will take them to Exeter and Exmouth, combining historic city sights with a taste of the Devon coastline, as well as a trip to Bristol for a change of scenery and a little city exploring.

Closer to home, their half-day excursions will include the beautiful coastal favourites of Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, followed by the spectacular scenery of Lynton and Lynmouth. 🌊
From seaside views and new discoveries to everyday conversations around the family dinner table, it’s all part of experiencing English beyond the classroom.
As always, a huge thank you to our fantastic host families for opening their homes and helping make these visits so much more than just a language course, and to our SOL team for bringing everything together.

A late Sunday arrival, a warm Devon welcome and a whole week of new experiences ahead. We can’t wait to get started! 💙💛

SOL on the move – connecting with schools in Hungary!

This week, Budapest is bringing together SOL coordinators from different countries for a few days of meetings, exchanging ideas and planning future activities. We will also be attending the TESOL-Hungary Conference and, just as importantly, taking the opportunity to visit schools and meet teachers and students in person.

Today, our team visited two very different schools, each with its own interesting story.

In Budapest, we visited the Угорсько-Українська Школа / Magyar-Ukrán Iskola Budapest , a relatively new educational initiative established in 2024, bringing together Hungarian and Ukrainian languages and cultures.

We also travelled to Győr to visit Révai Miklós Gimnázium , a well-established institution recognised as one of Hungary’s top 20 secondary schools.

We are delighted to have made these new connections and look forward to developing our cooperation with both schools.

This is how we work at SOL. We believe in visiting schools, listening to teachers, understanding their educational environments and building relationships directly with the people who make education happen.

And with our coordinators working across so many countries, every new connection opens up opportunities for future collaboration.
