Starting a new school is a big moment for children and families. That’s why, through Barnsley Council’s Great Childhoods Ambition, the 2026 Uniform Support Scheme is helping with the cost of uniforms for children starting reception and year 7 this September.
All families who live in the Barnsley local authority area with a child starting reception or year 7 in September are eligible, and can receive one voucher per child. Most vouchers will be issued automatically and, if you're eligible, you should receive yours through the post by the end of July.
If you live in Barnsley but your child attends a school outside the borough, you'll need to apply online.

Today I said ‘see you soon’ to this incredible group of children. Compassion, kindness, empathy, support and determination shines out of every single one of them. Their legacy will resonate around Hoyland Springwood for many years to come. My heart is full. Thank you for making this year so wonderful. I will miss you all, Mrs Parker xx

Today we say a fond farewell to the wonderful Mrs Fletcher as she begins her well-earned retirement.

Yesterday we walked to old Martha’s yard to meet the ladies from the community shop who had invited us to a teddy bears picnic.
We all took our own teddies along with us to enjoy the afternoon . We enjoyed jam sandwiches, crisps, fruit and drinks. We enjoyed looking around the fairy garden, looking at the various vegetables. Playing in the sand and much more. Fun was had by all.

Last week during transition week we were joined by our new children. We made our own salt dough mixing flour, salt and water . We enjoyed mixing the ingredients together to make a dough. Then we used different sea animal cutters to create our animals from the story ‘Busy beach ‘ which is our topic this term. Placing them in the oven to bake and later painting.
