Traditional African mud art refers to Bogolanfini which is the mud cloth. Korhogo cloth is printing animals, we did turtles and Bombola cloth is a pattern theme. The children did a mixture of both. First the cloth was painted brown to resemble the mud and then they used different paints with the both the front and the back of a paint brush to carve out their art work. The children have done really well creating their atsese art work.

We spoke about how African mummy’s carry their baby. Some of our children wanted to have a turn at carrying a doll on their back to replica this experience. This is very similar to Handa’s Surprise book where we talk about Handa carrying the fruit basket on her head.

Here we are learning a traditional African dance. We spoke about the different animals that there are in Africa, including a hippopotamus, a giraffe, a zebra, a monkey, a snake, a flamingo, a peacock, a crocodile and an octopus before wriggling about like that animal.

This morning, Bemma came to us at nursery, where some of the older children took part in African activities. This year is the national year of reading and here we are enjoy listening to one of the stories that Bemma wrote herself, ‘Ayuda’s deep dive’.

We have been making the most of the lovely ☀️. The children have been moving around in different ways exploring all the different activities outside in the garden and using their imagination whilst playing in the home corner, making delicious food for their friends.

Our caterpillars have gone through metamorphosis and have changed into butterflies. Today we have said goodbye to them as they have gone to fly with their friends and their family.

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the lifecycle of a caterpillars. We were lucky enough to get our own caterpillar eggs. We have loved looking at them and watching them develop and evolve from tiny eggs into caterpillars. Currently our caterpillars are hibernating in their chrysalis’ and we are eagerly awaiting on them the hatch. 🥚 🐛 🦋
