Our very own Jaene has just qualified for Sports Diver!!! Huge congratulations goes out to her! Well done!

A little message from her on this amazing journey:

"Qualifying as a BSAC Sports Diver: A Massive Milestone for Me
If you had told me when I started my snorkelling journey with Barnsley BSAC Divers that I would eventually qualify as a BSAC Sports Diver, I never would have believed you. It has been an incredible and challenging road, filled with moments where I truly doubted I would see it through. However, what started as a seemingly impossible goal became a reality during a recent expedition to the beautiful Isle of Tiree. While joining the fantastic crew from Dearne Valley Divers on a thrilling tope shark trip, I successfully completed my final open-water assessments to qualify as a Sports Diver.
Although Dearne Valley isn’t my home club, their warmth, encouragement, and camaraderie were instrumental in helping me cross the finish line. This qualification is a deeply personal victory, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone from both Barnsley and Dearne Valley who supported me along the way. Special mention, however, must go to Pam Tarn and Sammy Norton for their endless patience, guidance, and motivation throughout the week. I can't wait to bring my new skills back home to help and support others, and I am already looking forward to the next adventure!"

Barnsley BSAC weekend trip update from Donna:

"It was another weekend for Barnsley Scuba Divers. This time we headed to Seahouses on the Northumberland coast during another heatwave in Barnsley.

While we couldn’t dive in the wild North Seas of the Farne Islands, we didn’t feel disappointed. Instead we decided to relax and enjoy the weekend.

In the end, the trip was all about finding comfortable and easy places to stay, enjoying excellent food with our scuba friends and taking a scenic walk along the beach to Bamburgh Castle. We also had a chance to explore Holy Island and soak up some culture.

It taught me that some of the best travel experiences come from taking things at a slower pace and in such a beautiful landscape as Northumberland. It was still a rewarding experience discovering new places.

Thank you so much to David, Ann and Ezra for putting together this trip. And a special thank you to everyone who came along!"

Another good week at Barnsley BSAC. Training underway as always. Kit preparation for away weekend trips being prepared and a huge congratulations to our Sammie for passing the practical instructors exam! Way to go!

This past week has been a busy one at Barnsley BSAC. Weekly dive training and our quarterly social. Good times!

Hello Facebook Community. Our lovely Donna went on amazing adventure to Cyprus and has shared with us some photos and a bit about her trip (See below):

"The Dive holiday started with a night flight from Birmingham to Larnaca airport Cyprus. Arriving very early in the morning this then gave us our first day to acclimatise and relax.

The first day diving started with an 8am pickup which was the theme for the rest of the week with a 2 o`clock return time to the apartment. On the first dive day we did two dives at Green Bay. The first dive gave us plenty to see in regards to the wildlife in the gullies a rock-formations, along with a few underwater statues on the way. The second dive was more thrilling with a couple of caves and tunnels to swim through.

Day three was a rib trip out to a wreck called the Nemesis at 25m. This wreck is upright and had a lovely swim through the engine room from bow to stern. The boat was deliberately sunk to provide a natural reef for marine life and as such the wreck is upright in clear water making this a great dive. After the Nemesis we went to Cape Greko and the cyclops cave where after a tough kit carry we got to a rock platform to start our dive. We followed the rocky and sandy bottom to a wall where we dropped down to 21m and then followed the wall round coming up to 15m where there was plenty of lion fish and other fish species to see.

Day four was a rest day and a day to chill out and visit a local restaurant and ice cream parlour. Unfortunately, the ice cream parlour then became a daily visit and a few inches started to appear from nowhere by the end of the week. Day five was amazing at cape Greko. A bit of hard work carrying kit down to the entry point but well worth it. Swim out over gullies then to a sandy bottom with sea horses and octopus to photograph we then turned right to the rock formations with tunnels to swim through and caves. Finally finishing in a cave and surfacing through a hole in the centre of the cave, absolutely brilliant and thoroughly recommended. From the caves we then went to the second dive location at Musan Ayianapa which is an underwater museum. It is a long walk out in the water but then it drops to 4m then 10m for the museum which is very interesting and plenty of wild life was to be seen from scorpion fish, squid puffer fish, and a range of other fish species. It is quite strange seeing people free diving and swimming above you.

The fifth day was the longest day for two dives on the Zenobia at 30m + and a night dive. The ferry is on its side with all the passengers cargo and in the swimming though the cafeteria we saw the original Capets still holding on for life. The coffee machine was a crazy sight to see, so there is plenty to see and swim through, plus a little barbeque on our boat for the surface interval.

The last dive of the trip was a night dive of 9m at Geen Bay which was amazing, everything by torch light, octopus, moray eels, lion fish and a variety of other fish and a dive that I would thoroughly recommend doing.

We dove with wreck2Tech Divers and Will put the dive package together along with Maria who guided us through many of the dives. The next time we go to Cyprus we will stay at Will`s apartments above the dive shop where all the local amenities are close by plus a swimming pool to chill out at."
