We have another fabulous run report this week from one of our visitors.

Su also sent in some fab pictures which I will download and attach as soon as I can but here is the run report for now, thanks Su.

Thank you for a wonderful morning, what a stunning park and a fabulous parkrun.

Ok let’s start with the volunteers as they were the first people I met, super warm welcome by Corrin the RD. We were then briefed and set on our way - keep right, thank the marshals, 1 child per runner on a short hand held lead and dogs under 11 in arms length of a responsible adult - all the right words not necessarily in the right order. A team of 30 awesome volunteers some running and volunteering others just volunteering- there’s lots of roles so something for everyone and the event can’t happen.
Now let’s move onto the runners because let’s face it volunteering would be a bit boring without runners.

205 runners took on the 3 lap, undulating route round Locke Park.
35 taking on the ups and downs for the first time, I hope you had a fabulous time I certainly did, I had the added pleasure of bumping into a friend of a friend having travelled to Barnsley solo (which is something I rarely do) which is what I love about parkrun.
13 were starting out on their parkrun journey, welcome to your new Saturday morning routine and here’s to many happy parkruns, which means 26 of us were visiting from other events near and far (Newbury to Halifax, Derby to Manchester and Leeds). I was a perfect stop point for me halfway from Manchester to family in Gainsborough, always fit a parkrun fix in.

A super speedy 39 bagged a shiny new time - PB’s were spread throughout the field from Leo in 4th place to John in 205 place - awesome effort everyone and well done on smashing your own goals.

Proving that parkrun is for all ages, speeds and sex’s we welcomed runners in all age categories from J10 to VM75-79, from 16:32 to 59:57 and 117 male and 86 females. We had just 2 unknowns - whoops don’t forget your barcodes.

Milestones, I love milestones - 50 runs to Cameron - have you ordered your Red merch yet and non merch milestones, Leah and John on your first volunteer well done, 24 more to go for a volunteer milestone and another non merch milestone but very impressive 350 runs for Lucy.

A huge well done to everyone, starting the weekend the best way possible.

So a tiny bit about me, I chose Barnsley for my 358th parkrun as I was on route to family in Gainsborough. Barnsley was my 162nd different event. Writing this report is my 443rd volunteer, I love volunteering my fave roles are RD, warm up and tail walker at juniors. I love writing reports as a tourist and parkwalking at 5k. parkrun has taken me to parks and places I never knew existed and places I’d probably never have visited. I’ve made some amazing friends and met some amazing people.
Barnsley thank you for a fabulous morning, sunshine always helps as does amazing volunteers. If you could ask the fairies to flatten the hills that would be ace.

Have a fabulous week and happy parkrunning

Su
