We design community-led Makerspaces- places and spaces for people to be creative problem-solvers. Then, I begged to lead the outdoor lessons at summer club.

Community is who I am
From as early as I can remember, my mom and dad were entertaining neighbourhood kids, organising summer clubs and volunteering to keep the local baseball fields tidy. I started volunteering at the baseball concession stands and championed for other kids to do the same. I figured out pretty quickly that kids are way better at creating games than adults – slip and slide basebal

πŸ“£We're Hiring!πŸ“£

We’re hiring someone who can take the lead on an exciting project that aims to move land and buildings out of private ownership and into community stewardship. This is part of a larger UK wide pilot project.

We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who understands the importance of community.πŸ™Œ

You will be leading the development of a Community Development Trust in Darnall Ward, Sheffield. This project is running for the next two years with the aim of creating a self-sustaining organisation that will continue beyond the end of this funding.

This project is to address the disparity of Black and brown communities accessing community assets in South Yorkshire. Our priority is to create a safe place where Black and brown people to share their experiences without needing to overexplain or further oppress. It is therefore a requirement that the person filling this post must have lived experience of being of the Global Majority/from a racialised community. This is not a remote position, expect to be working closely in person with the community, stakeholders, asset owners, developers on the ground in Darnall.

Over the past month we've been busy delivering our workshops and courses with community organisations across Sheffield. These are funded by Sheffield City Council as part of their Adult Skills Fund provision.

These courses focus on learning practical skills that can benefit mental wellbeing, especially when done in a safe and inclusive environment. πŸ’œ

✨If you're a community organisation that would like to partner with us to deliver some workshops get in touch.

πŸ† We've won an award! πŸ†

We won the award for Outstanding Organisation for delivering our DIY and numeracy courses to adults and children in primary schools across Sheffield.

We've loved delivering these courses, we've met so many incredible people and loved being able to watch people's confidence grow when they figure out how to do a sum or a calculation!

Thank you to for nominating us πŸ‘πŸ½.

We took over the polytunnel and turned it into a makerspace! πŸ’ͺ🏽

Civic Square were kind enough to host us last week for a DIY design challenge...

πŸ’₯ The task: to think about our home and neighbourhood and to create something that brings joy, using only leftover materials from other projects.

We love doing activities like this because seeing everyone's creativity flourishing and getting to see something get made from materials that would otherwise be thrown away is food for the soul! 🌿🌞🧠

Sharing knowledge and resources with organisations that are doing amazing work so we can all learn and grow together is a beautiful thing πŸ’œ

As we continue to try and make sense of all this hatred, we have decided to cancel all of our events this week. We love what we do and we had some great things planned for this week but the safety of our team and participants comes first.

Love πŸ’œ

Image description: white text on a purple background which reads "As a black and brown led organisation we have watched the last week of events unfold with a multitude of emotions. Horror, terror, sadness, anger, but also a quiet sense of intuition that this was inevitable."

"For years, social media has been a cesspit of fake news, far-right hatred, and the dehumanisation of vulnerable groups of people. Left unchecked by governments, it's grown into a monster which fuels the fire for domestic terrorism. When people in power get a free ride to use racist language, it sends a message to everyone else they can too."

"Divide and conquer is the oldest trick in the book, and it's working again."

"We have made the decision to cancel all of our events this week. The safety of our staff and participants is of the most importance and we cannot guarantee that with Neo N***s running around setting fire to hotels, shops, libraries, and terrorising black and brown folk for no reason. Reliving trauma over and over again is tiring. We are tired."

"We have seen the anger from our white allies turn into mass organisation across South Yorkshire. With another day of counter protests planned we can only hope, as we sit inside scared to leave the house, this turns into a bigger movement and doesn't end up just another black square on your Instagram..."
