Just when you think it’s all going so well!
I sold a motorbike last December, filled out the V5C log book and sent it off.
A few weeks ago had a letter saying I hadn’t notified DVLA and they were fining me. The letter also said that if I disputed it, I had to fill in the details on the form and send it back to them.
Simple I thought, I had taken a copy of the V5C before posting it, so I sent the form and the copy off to them.
Got another letter yesterday – the acknowledge that I sent proof of sending it BUT ….
Quote “although you have indicated that you are no longer the keeper of the vehicle, the department has no received notification of this. When the department is advised that the keeper of the vehicle has changed we send an acknowledgment letter within 4 weeks. It’s a matter for you to pursue this letter. Details on this process can be found on the V5C”
So, that’s the SAME V5C AS YOU SEND BACK TO THEM!!!!
I have to pay or they will take me to court - £35 for not checking a government department does its job!
Lesson learnt? Even if you can PROVE you sent it, we have to pay for their mistakes. And the time wasted on looking at the appeal – typical government cock-up

Driving down Harborough Hill Road in Barnsley about 15 minutes ago and on opposite a man was laying on the pavement with a pushbike at side of him trying to flag someone down.
He was obviously ill or had been involved in an accident.
What did the traffic do? Drove around him - not one vehicle stopped to see if he was ok!
Well done to the young woman walking down who stopped and helped him.
It tuned out he suffered from Angina, a condition that feels and acts like a heart attack, luckily he had medication with him that helped, but it could have turned into a tragic event if he had gone into cardiac arrest.
I would like to get some feedback, let me know what you would have done.
Would you have stopped?
Would you have known what to do?
